Oakley Named a Safest City Again

Oakley was named by yet another entity to be in the top 10% of California's safest cities. The 50 cities included as the safest in California feature individual crime rates that are below the norm for the state as a whole.

Wood Chips/Mulch Available TOMORROW

The City of Oakley and Diablo Water District have teamed with West Coast Arborists, Inc. (WCA) to offer free wood chips to spread as mulch around trees and shrubs last year and are continuing the program in 2016 as supplies last.

Wood chips are available for pick-up this Saturday, January 23, 2016, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the corner of Neroly Road and Main Street (entrance on Neroly). Other dates in the Spring will be established. Oakley residents need to bring their own tools/shovels and bags/containers to load and carry the mulch, and a tarp to cover if necessary. Residents are asked to not take more than 5 yards at a time.
Family Discovery Day
O n Saturday, January 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. there will be a Family Discovery Day hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1432 Laurel Road in Oakley.

This event will give the community the opportunity to strengthen family ties by discovering how to find names to add to their family trees, as well as learn new ways to preserve their family legacies and share this with others. There will be several stations set up where people can gain new ideas relating to family history, enjoy activities for all ages that will improve family connections, and sample food made from local family recipes.

This is a free community event and all ages are welcome to attend.  Sign up to attend at www.lds.org/familydiscoveryday. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Geoff Fowler at [email protected] or (925) 386-6251.
"Shop Oakley" Program
The City of Oakley is starting an additional program in support of Oakley businesses called "Shop Oakley." Oakley businesses with a valid business license will be sent a letter with full details of the program. Business owners who are interested in participating will be asked to submit information about a discount or promotion of some type. The City will use this information to create a coupon for the business to be included in a Shop Oakley coupon booklet. The coupon booklets will be printed by the City and made available to the public free of charge at City Hall and participating businesses. The booklets will also be distributed at a variety of community events throughout the year.

Space is limited in this program. If you are interested in taking part in this marketing opportunity, please contact Cindy Coelho at (925) 625-7044 or email at
[email protected]. The deadline to register is January 29th. The goal is to have the Shop Oakley coupon booklets printed and available by February 22nd.
