Local YWCA hosts Diversity Night

On Thursday, January 7, almost a dozen individuals showed up for Diversity Night, an intimate event hosted by a local preschool, YWCA. The YWCA is a national organization that is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, dignity, and justice for all, has a local association that dedicates itself to run the income based Preschool located in Oakley. Every year, YWCA hosts Diversity Night in the effort to celebrate the cultural differences that exist among their multicultural families that truly reaches every corner of the world. This year's Diversity Night welcomed the local You, Me, We Oakley! (YMWO) Program to create the agenda and lead the discussion.

At the Tuesday, January 12th City Council Meeting :
- Adopted a resolution directing to place a Ballot Measure for voter consideration at the June 7, 2016 Election that would fund the construction of a new Oakley Library and Learning Center in the Downtown
- Approved Sponsorship Agreements for Wild West Bass Trail and Dan's Delta Outdoors Fishing Tournaments to be held at Big Break Marina
- Approved design review for the Willow Neighborhood at the Emerson Ranch development near E. Cypress and Sellers Ave.
- Introduced an Ordinance to Prohibit Cultivation of Medical Marijuana in Oakley

City of Oakley Completes Turf Conversion Project
|
The City of Oakley Parks and Landscape Division has completed their planned turf conversions of approximately 182,000 square feet of landscape that they started in July and involved various locations throughout the Oakley.
In May of 2015, the City of Oakley City Council approved a Water Conservation/Management Strategies report that provided the framework of how the Parks and Landscape Division would address the mandated drought restrictions. One aspect of the action plan for long term water conservation included reducing the amount of unnecessary turf in landscaped areas that are irrigated with potable water.
The City will receive reimbursement for about one-fifth of its investment from the Contra Costa Water District's turf conversion rebate program.
