New Pedestrian Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony  
Join us for the unveiling of the new Marsh Creek Pedestrian Bridge. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place tomorrow Saturday, December 5th at 11:00 a.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the east side of Marsh Creek Glen Park located at 430 Hill Avenue. There will be light refreshments served. We encourage biking or walking to the event.       
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is Tomorrow
Join us at the Civic Center Plaza, 3231 Main Street for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting tomorrow at 4:00 p.mThere will be live entertainment, including the Oakley Elementary School District and the Freedom High School choirs. Free refreshments will be served and there will be crafts for the children. Santa Claus will be our special guest and be on site to visit with children and pose for family photos, so be sure to bring your camera! The Tree Lighting will take place at approximately 6:00 p.m.

 
Holiday Decorating Contest- Deadline is Monday 
Oakley residents are invited to show their community pride and help spread holiday cheer by submitting a digital photo of the festive decorations on the front of their home, front yard and roof.
 
The contest is limited to residents (no businesses) and participants must live within the City of Oakley limits. Entry forms and information are available here. The entry deadline is this Monday, December 7th at 5:00 p.m. Photos will be posted on-line and the public will vote December 8th-14th. The winner will be announced December 15th
New Trash Receptacles Installed
Several of Oakley's parks and landscape areas are beginning to see new waste receptacles installed. Parks and Landscape Division Foreman, Jesse Dela Cruz said, "The installations are part of the on-going maintenance and improvements that take place in the City's parks and streetscape." 
Trees Enhance Empire Avenue
The City of Oakley Parks and Landscape Division recently completed installing nearly 40 trees on Empire Avenue center medians between Laurel Road and Carpenter Road. "Trees really contribute to the beauty of Oakley," said Len Morrow, Parks and Landscape Division Manager. "As they mature and bloom each year it will look extra nice as you travel on Empire Avenue," Morrow noted. Parks and Landscape Foreman Jesse Dela Cruz said "Crape Myrtle and Chinese Fringe trees, all drought tolerant trees, were planted with individual bubblers to conserve water and to avoid runoff."
