Turf Conversion Landscaping Project in Final Phase
|
In May, the City Council approved a Water Conservation/Management Strategies that provided the framework for how the Parks and Landscape Division would address the mandated drought restrictions. One aspect of the action plan for long term water conservation included reducing the amount of unnecessary turf in landscaped areas that are irrigated with potable water.
The turf conversion process began in July. Grass in narrow strips along the streets or turf not used for recreation activities in parks were the prime choices for this conversion process, while also assessing the practicality and affordability of the change. New plants are being installed at many of the locations targeted by the City of Oakley for turf conversion. The installation of the plants was purposefully delayed until the fall season to save water during the hot summer and rather planting when less water would be required for the plant establishment.

Two Neighborhoods Have Streets Repaired
|
Your tax dollars will be visible among several streets in town, as the City's Resurfacing Project nears completion. The City's resurfacing project focuses on neighborhood streets where the asphalt surface has failed and is breaking apart. Two neighborhoods were selected for this year's project consisting of 40 streets totaling 6800 tons of new asphalt. Most of the streets within the project limits received a new asphalt surface and others received a slurry seal.
The streets that had the worst failures addressed in this project were Bernard Road, Carrington Drive and Meadows Lane. The asphalt surface was completely removed on these streets and replaced with a new thicker asphalt surface. The pictures below show the final paving of the streets.
This week our contractor performed a slurry seal in several residential areas (west of Empire Ave./south of Oakley Rd.) and ( east of Main St./south of Laurel Rd). Final striping is scheduled to take place the week of October 26th. Work is being performed by Ghilloti Bros.
