Oakley Ranked in the Top 20 Best Cities for Families
|
Great news! Oakley was named the 20th Best City for California Families in a recent study conducted by the personal finance outlet WalletHub.com. The study compared 240 cities across 22 metrics which ranged from the number of pediatricians per capita, to the unemployment rate, affordability, crimes, playgrounds and more.

Pumpkins, Pies, Parades, & Pets.. at the Harvest Festival!
|
The City of Oakley will host the Annual Harvest Festival tomorrow Saturday, October 17th from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, 3231 Main Street. Admission is FREE. Bring your child or doggie in costume to march in the parade. Brought back by popular demand, is the "Pie Eating Contest." A continued favorite includes the pumpkin contest. Bring your pre-carved pumpkin and showcase your creativity and carving skills. Activities will include: glitter tattoos, giant slide, music, arts & crafts, food, and more than 30 local vendors.

Military Hero Essay Contest
|
We all know men and women who have served in the military. They are people we admire, look up to and respect for the sacrifices they have made and for the courage they demonstrate on and off the battle field. The City of Oakley invites you to tell us about your military hero.
The essay contest is open to all K-12 students that reside in Oakley. There will be one winner in each of the corresponding categories K-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. K-5th grade students are invited to submit a drawing with a caption, while 6th-12th grades are to submit 300-500 typewritten words. To qualify please submit a completed essay and entry form to marquez@ci.oakley.ca.us by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015.

Volunteer for Oakley's Community Service Day on Oct. 24th & Help us Spruce up Two Local Parks

Come help! Be a part of Oakley's Community Service Day on
Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Help us spruce up two local parks, while meeting other like minded residents. No specific skills are required! There is something to do for all ages. Remember to wear sun protection, comfortable shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.
Projects sites include Novarina Park (100 Brown Rd) and Holly Creek Park (4758 Hagar Ct) and will consist of installing/spreading sand around the playground or mulch in the planter areas.

At the Tuesday, October 13 th Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting the Council:
- Presented the Friends of the Oakley Library with a proclamation recognizing October 18-24th as National Friends of Libraries Week
- Heard a presentation by Contra Costa County Office of Education Trustee, Jeff Belle
- Heard a presentation by Devorah Levine and Susan Kim regarding the proposed East County Family Justice Center
