Fourth Annual Community Softball Game Builds Unity 
Last Thursday, You, Me, We Oakley! (YMWO) and the Oakley Police Department hosted the 3rd Annual Community Softball Game at O'Hara Park Middle School. From the new, to the seasoned softball players, everyone enjoyed the home runs, the strike outs, and the occasional fumble here and there. The rain did not stop the game or enthusiasm. Players, most who didn't know each other previously "teamed up" and quickly learned to work together in order to come out ahead in the friendly completion as the winning team.  
 
Movie in the Plaza to Feature "Monsters University" Tomorrow!  
The "Movie in the Plaza" series continues with Monsters University, tomorrow Saturday, October 10th. The movie which will take place in the Civic Center Plaza, located at 3231 Main Street, will begin after dusk.  movies begin after dusk.
 
Guests may bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the movies under the stars.  A snack bar will be available with treats for purchase. Admission is free!

Out of the Darkness Walk is Tomorrow!  
Want to help raise awareness and support work that prevents suicides? Don't forget, the first "Out of the Darkness Walk" is tomorrow Saturday, October 10th at the Cypress Grove Community Park located at 4001 Frank Hengel Way. 

Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the walk at 10:00 a.m. To register, donate or to learn more, please click here.

Participating walkers and donors will increase local awareness about depression and suicide, as well as help support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's advocacy for mental health issues, assistance of survivors, and the vital research and education programs aimed at preventing suicide and saving lives.    
Hometown Halloween Decorating Contest 
Goblins, witches and ghosts, oh my! The City of Oakley's Recreation Division invites you to enter your house in the 1st annual "Hometown Halloween Decorating Contest". Oakley residents can submit a digital photo of the front of their home (may include front yard and roof, no interior or back yards) by October 15th to be eligible for the contest. Entries will be posted online for the public to vote on. The winner will receive a special prize valued at $100.  The entry form is available on our website:  www.oakleyinfo.com. The winner will be announced October 23rd.

Volunteer for Oakley's Community Service Day on Oct. 24th & Help us Spruce up Two Local Parks  
While Oakley is a pleasant city to live in and preserving it goes beyond the walls of City Hall. Oakley runs a small and lean staff operation, but with the help of volunteer residents we can do that much more!
 
Past volunteer events we've organized have been well received, with participants stating they are fun while also building community and camaraderie. Join us on Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in sprucing up two local parks.

We will be spreading bark/mulch in planter areas at Holly Creek Park located at 4758 Hagar Court, Oakley and installing sand around the playground at Novarina Park located at 100 Brown Street, Oakley.

The City will facilitate materials needed. On the day of please wear sun protection, closed toe shoes, and appropriate closed for the weather that you don't mind getting dirty.

Harvest Festival is Saturday, October 17th  
The  City of Oakley will host the Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 17th from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, located at 3231 Main Street. Admission is FREE.  

Wear your funniest, scariest or most creative Halloween costume to march in our parade; all participants will receive a goody bag and all ages are welcome!
 
Dog owners can bring their canine friends to join the Canine Costume Parade. Register at the DASH (Delta Animals Safe Haven) booth to participate in the parade and receive a free "doggie bag".
