The Cityhood Celebration Is Tomorrow!

The City of Oakley will host the 16th Annual Cityhood Celebration this Saturday, July 4th at the Freedom High School Basin beginning at 6:00p.m. This year's event commemorates both the anniversary of Oakley's incorporation as a City in 1999 and our nation's independence.

Admission to the Cityhood Celebration is free, however children's/teens activities require the purchase of a $5 wristband that allows for unlimited usage of the children's activities. The children's area will include rock climbing wall, giant obstacle course, slides, bounce houses, a "mechanical shark," glitter tattoos and more. A selection of food will be available ranging from barbecues, snow cones, ice cream, pizza, cotton candy, kettle corn, corn dogs and funnel cakes.

Message from Chief Dan- Fireworks Are Illegal

Summer has arrived and Fourth of July celebrations are just around the corner.  I want to remind everyone that the use, possession, manufacture, and sale of fireworks is illegal in the both the City of Oakley and the County of Contra Costa.  Every year across the country many people suffer serious injuries requiring medical treatment due to fireworks related mishaps.  In some instances, the injuries are fatal.  Don't risk your safety or the safety of your family believing that "It can't happen to you." As many of you may remember, in March of this year a local child was seriously injured by an unlawful firework that exploded in his hand.  The danger is very real.

The City of Oakley Provides One-Stop Service for U.S. Passports

Planning a trip out of the country? Be advised that passports are required for air, land, and sea travel outside of the United States.

The State Department now offers a passport card - a wallet-size card that can be used only for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.  The card is a less expensive, smaller, and more convenient alternative to the passport book for those who travel frequently to these destinations by land or by sea.  A passport book is required for air travel.
