Oakley Ranked One of California's Safest Cities 

Oakley has made the list again! Oakley was ranked 42 in the Safewise 50 Safest Cities in California report. SafeWise, a home security system provider examined data from the most recent FBI Crime in the U.S. Report in addition to their own thorough research to develop the comprehensive list of the 50 safest cities in California with 10,000 residents or more.

Oakley was the only east county city making the cut, however other nearby cities included Clayton (7th), Moraga (8th), Danville (10th), San Ramon (12th), Hercules (19th), Orinda (20th).

Oakley's Mayor will be at Raley's tomorrow  to hear from you. Every month the Mayor will visit a local supermarket to allow you to talk to about issues, ask questions, discuss concerns, and offer comments or suggestions. There will be no agendas or speeches, just a chance to come out and introduce yourself and talk about what matters to you.  

Click It or Ticket Campaign Starts May 18th  
Once again, the Oakley Police Department is reminding motorists to
Click It or Ticket. As part of the national seat belt enforcement campaign, law enforcement agencies around the country will be stepping up enforcement May 18-31, including one of the busiest travel weekends of the year that kicks off the summer season.
City of Oakley Celebrates National Public Works Week
With Local Students
 
The City of Oakley's Public Works Week Open House is happening on
Wednesday, May 20 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m at the City of Oakley Civic Center. Three groups of local school children from two neighboring elementary schools, as well as a group of home schooled students form the community will be attending the event to get an up close view of the Public Work's operation.

Free Water Conservation Workshop This Wednesday  

May 20th at 6:30 p.m. Registration is Required  

The great California drought is here. In response to our serious water shortage, the City of Oakley in partnership with Diablo Water District, are asking residents to conserve water. Now is the time for you to take action and practice water conservation. To help you do your best at saving water, the City and the water district are hosting a free workshop called, Water Conservation: Every Drop Counts. The workshop will take place this Wednesday, May 20th  at City Hall and it will begin at 6:30 p.m. This workshop is full of useful water conservation tips and facts, and includes the Top 10 Actions you can take to maximize water savings.

Oakley's Memorial Day Observance Ceremony

Saturday, May 23rd at 10:30 a.m.  

The City of Oakley's Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at the Civic Center Park, 3231 Main Street beginning at 10:30 a.m. Please join us.


Oakley's program will include the Presentation of Colors, performance from the Freedom High School Choir, a student decoration of the memorial wreath, 3-volley salute, taps, and more! The event's Memorial Day address will be delivered by Oakley resident, U.S. Air force Senior Airman and Vietnam combat veteran, John Amie. Mr. Amie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968, one year of which while serving in the 37th Air Rescue & Recovery Squadron at Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam (RVN).

Safekeeper Trainings Starting Soon 
Crisis intervention and Suicide Prevention

Are you interested in learning how you can help others in crisis? Would you like to understand how you can have an active role in preventing suicide in our community? If so, be sure to sign up for the You, Me, We= Oakley! (YMWO) sponsored crisis intervention/suicide prevention training series, the first of which will be offered in Spanish on Saturday, May 16th from 9:00 a.m. to noon and on Saturday, May 30th from 9:00 a.m. to noon in English. Both trainings will be held at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Oakley, located at 1432 Laurel Road.

 

The trainings are open to all East Contra Costa residents and free. Participants will learn how to recognize warning signs of suicide ideation, understand the full effects suicide bares on a community, learn how to discuss the subject with someone who may be contemplating suicide, and much more.

City Council Debrief   

At the Tuesday, May 12th Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting the Council:

  • Proclaimed May 17th-23rd National Public Works week
  • Adopted an Ordinance establishing a municipal Police Department
  • Awarded a construction contract that will rehabilitate, resurface, and newly stripe West Cypress Road from Empire Avenue to Rose Avenue, Big Break Road from Main Street to the marina, Rose Avenue from Main Street to Laurel Road and Brownstone Road from O'Hara Avenue to Main Street
  • Approved the Parks and Landscape Division Water Conservation/Management Strategies. This action plan is aimed at accomplishing water conservation consistent with State emergency regulations. For a summary flyer click here.
