Library Commission Deadline to Apply is May 14th
|
The City of Oakley is accepting applications now to appoint an advisory member to the Contra Costa County Library Commission.
To access the application click here or visit us in person at City Hall during regular business hours. Applications are due Thursday, May 14th at 6:00 p.m. Applications will be considered by the Oakley City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting to be held Tuesday, May 26th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Applicants are encouraged to attend the meeting and may be interviewed during the meeting.

Everyone is aware there's a drought and we're all being asked to conserve water. Being conscious of our water usage is something that is both our social responsibility to the community and our commitment toward a healthier, longer-sustaining environment. With that said, the significant investment we have all made to beautify our landscaping and our homes, parks, businesses, etc. should continue to be maintained. The common standards of attractive and sustainable landscaping can be met regardless of whether or not there is a drought.

Parks & Landscape Division Spruces Up Subdivision Signs

The City of Oakley Parks and Landscape Division, being disappointed in seeing several Oakley subdivision entrance signs on busy roadways looking poorly, has taken proactive measures by cleaning and painting some of the signs around the city.
Though the maintenance (repair and replacement) of subdivision entrance signs, sound walls and fences is the responsibility of the homeowners, or under the jurisdiction of a homeowners association if one is established, the Parks Division took it upon themselves to make some of the subdivision entrances more inviting and livable.

Water Conservation Workshop- Save the Date

The great California drought is here. In response to our serious water shortage, the City of Oakley in partnership with Diablo Water District, are asking residents to conserve water. Now is the time for you to take action and practice water conservation. To help you do your best at saving water, the City and the water district are hosting a free workshop called Water Conservation: Every Drop Counts. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, May 20th at City Hall and begin at 6:30 p.m. This workshop is full of useful water conservation tips and facts, and includes the Top 10 Actions you can take to maximize water savings.

Cityhood Celebration, Vendors Wanted!

The Cityhood Celebration will be on Saturday, July 4th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Freedom High School soccer basin located at 1050 Neroly Road.
We are looking for vendors to participate in the Cityhood Celebration. This family-friendly event draws up to 8,000 guests, with music, food, bounce houses, giant slides, obstacle courses, rock climbing walls, and the popular "mechanical shark". The event culminates with a spectacular fireworks display. The City is accepting vendor booth applications for food, retail, arts & crafts, service and non-profit organizations. Space is limited. We will accept applications until spaces are full or June 1st.
Vendor booth applications are available at City Hall, located at 3231 Main Street or you can request one by emailing Cindy Coelho at Coelho@ci.oakley.ca.us.

Oakley's Memorial Day Observance Ceremony
Join Us Saturday, May 23rd

The City of Oakley's Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at the Civic Center Park, 3231 Main Street beginning at
10:30 a.m. Please join us.
Oakley's program will include the Presentation of Colors, performance from the Freedom High School Choir, a student decoration of the memorial wreath, 3-volley salute, taps, and more! The event's Memorial Day address will be delivered by Oakley resident, U.S. Air force Senior Airman and Vietnam combat veteran, John Amie. Mr. Amie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968, one year of which while serving in the 37th Air Rescue & Recovery Squadron at Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam (RVN).
