At the Tuesday, April 28th Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting the Council:
- Proclaimed May 3rd-9th as Municipal Clerk's week in Oakley
- Was recognized by the Contra Costa Tobacco Prevention Coalition for the Council's outstanding contributions to tobacco prevention

Accepting Nominations for Outstanding Youth Award
|
Do you know of a young person that has had an impact on our community and should be recognized for it? If so, we want to know! The deadline to nominate this deserving youth for the 2015 Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award is May 5th.
Any middle or high school student who lives in Oakley and volunteers in Oakley or the surrounding area is eligible. All nominees will receive a letter of recognition informing them of their nomination. Up to three outstanding youth volunteers will be selected by Oakley Youth Advisory Committee members to receive an award based on their personal commitment and their positive impact on the community. Award winners will also receive a prize valued at $100.

Social Media Workshop for Small Business Owners this Wednesday
|
Do you find social media to be a challenge, but need help understanding it to grow your business? Look no further. On Wednesday, May 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the City of Oakley will hold a two-hour workshop to help you better understand and ask questions about the complex world of social media. The workshop will take place at City Hall, located at 3231 Main St.
The workshop will be presented by John Smulo, owner of Purple Cow Agency based in San Jose and Brentwood. There is a fee of $20.00 if you pre-register, or $25.00 at the door (cash or check only).

Oakley Among California Cities to See Significant Decrease in Crime Rate
|
If you live in Oakley, you've likely experienced or heard of our superb Police Department's on-going effort to preserve Oakley as a safe community to raise a family. Now, yet another independent review confirms what residents already knew.
Safe Choice Security reviewed data from 2007-2012 FBI Crime Reporting Statistics to identify the twenty California cities that have effectively decreased crime via advanced police programs, services and techniques. Ranked number 7 of the 20, Oakley has seen a significant decline in both violent and property crime. According to Safe Choice, in 2007 Oakley experienced a 29.18 crime rate, whereas in 2012 that rate had decreased by 47.01% to 15.46.

Business Owner Input Wanted-Take our Survey

Oakley's Economic Development Division needs your input. Recently, surveys intended to help us better understand the needs of the business community were mailed out to all Oakley businesses.
Your responses will help us identify businesses that are expanding, the needs of home-based businesses, and provide feedback on business interaction with City staff and services.
If you received your survey already, please return via fax, mail or by dropping off at City Hall. Didn't receive it, no problem you can take online now.

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, Save the Date!
|
The City of Oakley will hold its fourth Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at the Civic Center Park, 3231 Main Street beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Oakley's program will include the Presentation of Colors, performance from the Freedom High School Choir, a student decoration of the memorial wreath, 3-volley salute, taps, and more! The event's Memorial Day address will be delivered by Oakley resident, U.S. Air force Senior Airman and Vietnam combat veteran, John Amie. Mr. Amie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968, one year of which while serving in the 37th Air Rescue & Recovery Squadron at Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam (RVN).

Business Plan 101- Starts May 9th

A business plan is an essential road map for business success. Don't have one? We can help! On May 9th & May 16th, the City is providing a two-day Business Plan 101 workshop on how to develop a business plan.
The instructor for this program is Jeffrey G. Hall, a professional educator and entrepreneur who for 15 years was affiliated with the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center's New Venture Training Program.
