The second annual Book It Run will take place Saturday, April 11th, 2015 at Cypress Grove Community Park, located at 4001 Frank Hengel Way in Oakley. There are many events to take part in including a 1k Run/Walk around the lake, 5k, 10k run, and a free Kids Fun Run.
Register for the 1k, 5k, or 10k before April 4th to receive a free T-shirt and medallion. Meanwhile the first 250 kids entered in the Kids Fun Run will receive a free book. Oakley's Mayor wants to hear from you. Every month the Mayor will visit a local supermarket to allow you to talk about issues, ask questions, discuss concerns, and offer comments or suggestions. There will be no agendas or speeches, just a chance to come out and introduce yourself and talk about what matters to you.

Business Plan 101 Workshop- Info. Meeting April 7th

A business plan is an essential road map for business success. Don't have one? We can help!
On May 9th & May 16th, the City is providing a two-day Business Plan 101 workshop on how to develop a business plan. The cost of the program is $99.00, including lunch. To learn more about the program and to get a head start on your plan, informational preview sessions will be held at Oakley City Hall on:
- April 7, 2015 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
- April 23, 2015 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

City's Water Conservation Efforts are On-going
|
Recognizing years ago that water is a limited resource and a major utility expense for irrigating parks and landscape, the City of Oakley began efforts to install wells, when possible and practical, at their parks when they are developed.
Nationally, 60-70% of water consumed in the summer is for landscape irrigation. The City, wishing to be proactive, and with no desire to be labeled a "water hog," planned and has been implementing the use of non-potable well water for irrigation, which greatly saves on the potable use consumption. Additionally, the City is now using a sophisticated irrigation central control system to save even more water.

City of Oakley is Now on Instagram
|
The City of Oakley has launched an Instagram account. Instagram is the newest social media platform the City has taken up to connect with residents, in addition to Facebook, Twitter, and Nextdoor.
Instagram is about capturing and sharing life's moments through photography. "We look forward to sharing photos that depict the beauty and serenity of the physical space that is Oakley, coupled with the energy of our community," stated Nancy Marquez-Suarez, Assistant to the City Manager.

The all-media inclusive Show will be offering cash prizes for the first, second, third, and "Best of Show."
This year's exhibit theme is "Celebrating the heritage of East Contra Costa County" and will have a grand opening reception on April 18, at 6:00 p.m. The Exhibit itself will be available to the public on April 18th from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.; April 20th-23rd from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and April 24th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Baņos-Galvan Recognized by Los Medanos College as the Recipient of the Cesar Chavez Spirit Award

Congratulations to Gabriela Baņos-Galvan! Gaby was recognized by Los Medanos College as the recipient of the, "Cesar Chavez Spirit Award," which is given to an emerging leader who has made a significant impact on the local community in the areas of advocacy and social justice.
Gaby is the "You, Me, We, Oakley!" Program Coordinator. This is a grant funded program which aims to create opportunities for our diverse residents to come together and better understand one another, appreciate each other's stories, and recognize our common desire to build a stronger, safer, and more vibrant community.
