Cartwright Recognized as OPD's Officer of the Year

Officer Logan Cartwright was selected as the Oakley Police Department's 2014 Officer of the Year. Officer Cartwright is a 12 year law enforcement veteran and has worked in Oakley since 2007.Logan approaches his work with a professional, pro-active, and progressive outlook. As part of the Oakley Police Department's Traffic Unit, Logan has more citizen contacts than the typical Oakley Officer. 


Chief Dan Gomez, stated, "Logan recognizes the significance his traffic enforcement and education efforts have on public safety and treats each citizen contact as an opportunity to make a positive impact. Logan's strong work ethic, extraordinary sense of personal commitment, and ability to handle a tough assignment with a high degree of poise, tact, and diplomacy made his selection as Officer of the Year a clear choice."

City Council Meeting Debrief

 

At the Tuesday, March 24th Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting the Council:

  • Proclaimed March as American Red Cross Month in Oakley
  • Heard an update regarding Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement and Vector Control District provided by Michael Krieg
  • Received an update from Fire Chief, Hugh Henderson regarding the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District
  • Approved the Annual Progress Report on Implementation of the Housing Element for the City of Oakley

Dewey Park Renovations 


Dewey Park, a small passive park at the corner of 2nd Street and Acme Street, adjoining the Oakley Senior Center, will open for use beginning March 28th

In January 2015, the Oakley City Council named the 90' x 100' parcel Dewey Park and appropriated $12,000 to renovate the park area. New irrigation, sod, and two picnic tables were added, along with landscaping, a horse shoe pit, barbecue, trash container, tree, and park sign. A bench is also slated to be installed. 

Announcing Science Week- Mark Your Calendars!

Science week is back, including past favorites and exciting new workshops! Science week activities will be held daily, between April 18thand 25th. Click here for a printable PDF of the week's programming.


 
Participants up to age 17 will receive a stamp on their "Passports" at each workshop they attend throughout the week. Participants with a minimum of five stamps at the conclusion of the Science Week program will receive a special prize; one winner per "Passport". Child care is not provided at any workshops, some workshops may require a parent/adult to supervise. This is a free program, registration is not required.

Disaster Preparedness Training Coming Soon

 

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of volunteers who undergo training to assist their community in the event of natural or man-made disaster. CERT training classes for East County residents are currently open for enrollment in Pittsburg and Brentwood; please refer to dates and times listed below. If you would like to participate in disaster preparedness training and explore the opportunities the CERT program can afford you, be sure to fill out the Class Enrollment Form found on the East County CERT website.
