Friends of the Oakley Library Book Sale is Tomorrow
|
The Friends of the Oakley Library are hosting a Book Sale tomorrow Saturday, February 21 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Most books will be available for 50 cents, with hardbacks for just $1. Starting at 1:30 p.m. you can fill up a grocery bag full of items for $5. By purchasing gently used books you are supporting library programs and services. The Oakley Library is located at 1050 Neroly Rd., on the Freedom High School campus. The Library is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10: 00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Friday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., closed Sunday.

Weigh In Now & Provide Input Regarding the Police Services Study
|
At the last Oakley City Council Meeting, the Council received a report and held a public input session regarding how police services are delivered in Oakley. Acknowledging how critical police services are for a safe, vibrant and successful community, last year the Council directed City staff to begin a specific study about how the City can best maintain (and even improve) these quality police services - especially as the City grows. "We want to make sure that Oakley continues to provide high-quality police services now and well into the future. The costs for these services are very high and we need to make sure we have a plan that will allow us to add police officers over time," said Mayor Doug Hardcastle.

Norcross, One of Oakley's Founding Fathers

Although Randolph Marsh and James O'Hara are the two Oakley founding fathers we most often hear of, there is another man who played a huge part in Oakley's development. His name was Alden Nathan Norcross and he was one of the first settlers in Oakley, California.
Alden was born on November 27, 1828 in Woodbury, Vermont. He lived in Vermont until he was 21 and then he moved to Boston where he went into the dray business.
