Ball Field Rehabilitation & Repair Start Next Week

Annual ball field renovations at Cypress Grove Park, Creekside Park, Shady Oak Park, Magnolia Park, Summer Lake Park, and Laurel Ballfields Park will take place starting next week and continue during the month of February in preparation for the start of spring sporting activities. The work will primarily include rehabilitation and repair work around the infields including minor turf repair, and installing, grading and rolling infield mix.

This year work will also include the conversion of one grass infield at Laurel Ballfields Park, Field #2, to a skinned/dirt infield to accommodate more uses, such a Pony League and softball play. This conversion is due to the growing need for ball fields for younger children by the community.

In a nutshell, we reviewed the conceptual plan with the attendees. The plan proposes the development of two acres, adjacent to the Nunn Wilson Park and would include a double-entry gate, benches and shade, human and dog drinking fountains, waste disposal for doggies, a pond (water feature play area), and agility equipment. The space would be mostly turf or grass and be fenced off in two sections: a section for little dogs and another for all dogs. Other amenities that will be added to the park include restrooms, a picnic area, and 25 additional parking spaces.
