The Bournewood Hospital community is excited about the below event sponsored by The IAM Strong Foundationa local organization that works to raise awareness of teen mental health issues and emphasize the need to treat mental health issues no differently than physical health issues.

Shifting the harmful language and attitudes around mental illness and substance use is critical to the health and well being of everyone. We are proud that one of Bournewood's own, Nurse Manager Mary McCarthy, is involved as a volunteer with the IAM Strong Foundation in eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness that often prevents people, especially teens, from getting help. Recognizing this can save lives.

IAM Strong sponsors a number of events, including "Confessions of a Depressed Comic... An Evening with Kevin Breel" and panel discussion on Nov. 4.

The event is free, and IAM Strong is accepting donations of new socks and underwear, prompted by Mary's suggestion that there is a significant need for these items for individuals who are homeless and for people who have been hospitalized with only the clothes they are wearing. IAM Strong took this to heart--and all donations of these items will be delivered to Bournewood.

Thank you, IAM Strong, for all the great work you do!
