This Week's Ministry Blog
The Alpha & The Omega

It has been a long time since I fished and swam the waters of Upper St. Croix Lake. From there the Brule River flows to the north and the St. Croix to the south. All the gifts the place held, including the people I shared them with powerfully shaped my childhood. Now when I visit and stand on the shoreline letting my thoughts wonder across the waters I am moved by the memories. Sometimes they are accompanied by tears with the realization of the passage of time and the acknowledgement of loss. The countless faces of that community that shared that time and place with me never seem far away in my remembering.

All Saints Day is a time of remembrance. Within the experience of worship we look to the past and remember the saints who have gone before us and are now at rest in God. In our walk of faith, remembrance is central to naming our identity as children of God. In the life of the church we take the memories and bring them alongside our hope in the risen Lord who makes all things new. It is within a redeeming grace that the past is gathered up and brought into a new day. We come to trust that God, the Alpha & Omega, holds all time in God's gentle embrace.

All Saints Day teaches us how to live into the present moment, grateful for the witness of the saints who have gone before us and enlivened by the Spirit who goes ahead of us. It is a day when we may feel the emotion of loss and yet know that our tears are met by the God of all consolation.

O Christ the same, through all our story's pages,
our loves and hopes, our failures and our fears;
eternal Lord, the king of all the ages,
unchanging still amid the passing years. - ELW 760

New Member Classes

This November we'll be having a new members class series on Sundays, November 1, 8 and 15, between worship services from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. in Faith Lights Room. Over the three short sessions you'll learn about the Lutheran way of being Christian, get to know this congregation better, and get to know one another. Even if you are not considering becoming a member at this time, it would be a great opportunity to get better connected! Childcare will be provided in the nursery for all sessions. Please respond to Kala Zanoni at [email protected] or 225-8334 if you plan to attend.

Craft Night

Thank you to all the crafters and teachers who shared their talents on Craft Night, October 29. From making Faith's Grape Jelly to Crafty Initials and from Magic Memory Bracelets to Mesh Ribbon Wreaths and other crafts, we all had a creatively fun time.

Parents' Night Out

Our next Parents' Night Out is Friday, November 13, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Infants through 6th Graders are invited.  I encourage you to drop off your kids and then have some time to yourselves. Rest and time away from our kids can really help us be better parents. Plus, this event allows our kids to have time in fellowship. There is no cost, but a freewill offering is accepted. All proceeds fund our mission projects.  We will have a snack midway through, so be sure to have dinner before you drop off your kids.  Kids 7th Grade and older are welcome to come and help (and receive in-service or silver cord hours)!  Please respond to Kala in the office or directly to Rachel. All are invited, so spread the word to your neighbors and friends!
