CBAA Intramural Select Fall Season Highlights

To conclude a great fall season the CBAA Intramural Select teams participated in the 2012 Roger Erb Rec-Select Tournament in Montgomery. Two boys teams and three girls teams in the u12 through u16 age groups participated in the tournament.

CBAA Select Team U12 Girls

The U12 Girls team finished in first place in their division.  The U16 Girls team finished in second place in their age group.  The boys U14 team went undefeated throughout the tournament only giving up one goal. Most importantly all players had an outstanding fun day of soccer and had a chance to experience a more competitive level of play. Thank you to all the volunteer coaches and players' parents for putting in a little extra effort to make this a great experience for our players.

BUSC Academy Fall Season Recap

With 42 players, this Fall's BUSC Academy was a HUGE success.  In addition to weekly practices, each Academy player was invited to participate in a season ending in-house festival and pizza party at Herbst Soccer Complex.

U7 &U8 2012 Academy
U7 & U8 2012 Academy

U8 players also participated in the Yardley-Makefield Soccer 4v4 Festival, that hosted teams from all over NJ and PA.  Teams were coached by parent volunteers, who did a wonderful job of keeping it fun and exciting for the kids.  The BUSC Academy continues to be a great resource for identifying young players that are interested in BUSC travel soccer, as well as great parent volunteers who are interested

in becoming travel coaches for BUSC.

The Academy winter program is in full swing with Friday practices being held at SMG Sportsplex.

Registration for the Spring Academy is already open.  Players interested in the program must be registered for the Spring CBAA intramural program and can get registration details here.

Becky Barlow, Manager- Vipers

The BUSC FORCE U-13M team competed in the ICSL Elite Division (U13 Mens BUSCTop Bracket) and finished solidly in 3rd  place.  While most times one would not get excited over about third place, we   are

especially proud of the boys as we had over 50% new players join the team and this was our first year competing 11 v 11.  The team just competed in the Southampton November Classic where we finished in 2nd place....we really pulled together as a team and can only get better from here! Congrats to the FORCE for a season well done!!  Coaches and parents are very proud!

Glenn Schloeffel

Head Coach - BUSC Force

The BUSC Crashers U12M   The BUSC Crashers won the U-12M DELCO League (Division 2) 11 v 11 Championship Game 1-0 against the Cecil County Cyclones on Sunday November 11th, in Malvern PA. The championship was the third meeting for the teams this season (1 loss/1 tie). The Crashers won a hard fought victory with a strong defensive effort, solid goalkeeping, and a decisive goal on a free kick. The Crashers had  given up only 5 goals during the regular season going 6-1-1 before beating Springfield 4-0 in the semi-final match on Saturday at Central Park in Doylestown PA.

The Championship was the culmination of a great year of training with Evren Asral (Total Soccer) and Shawn Boney (Philadelphia KIXX). The U-12 Boys added a third team this year (BUSC Wolves). All three teams (Crashers/Renegades/Wolves) trained together academy style and helped each other to improve their skills.   Congratulations to the Crashers for a terrific season and their second consecutive DELCO League Championship and to the  Renegades and Wolves for an excellent fall season.

Drew Barlow

Head Coach - BUSC Crashers

 BUSC Dragons

The BUSC U10M Dragons  had a successful ICSL season ending with a record of 5-4-1.

The Dragons went on a 5 win mid-season run and really came together as a team.  Multiple goal scorers, steady defense and solid goal tending were the key to the season. The Dragons look forward to continuing our play indoors this Winter season!

Duane Smulling
Head Coach - BUSC Dragons

The BUSC Sonic U11 Girls competed in ICSL Div 3 East for the 2012 Fall season.  They finished 1st place in their Division with an 8-2 record.  The team had an impressive 39 Goals For and only allowed 8 Goals Against for the season! Team Sonic welcomed 4 new players this year, and they competed in two tournaments.

Tracy Valko

Head Coach - BUSC Sonic

The BUSC Team Fire U11 Girls proved themselves successful on the field.  From starting out the season as a new team, their successes grew.  With each practice friendships formed, confidence was gained and a new or renewed love of the sport of soccer grew.  Team Fire went on to have one of the best season records in the club, building new friendships and the love for soccer along the way.

Goal Keeper Training

This past Fall Ryan Hayward created many new Goal Keeper Training GK M Opportunities at Buckingham United.

We had Training Clinics for all ages several times during the season on Sundays.  There was no additioanl fee for our keepers as they were run by our DOC!   In addition to our regular clinics this past Fall Season, we will had a very successful 8 week program geared toward U11 - U14. These sessions were run by Jake Nesteruk, a senior and GK at CB East this year. The feedback from parents and players was overwhelmingly positive.

TOPSoccer, or The Outreach Program for Soccer, is a nationally run organization under the U.S. Youth Soccer organization. It helps get soccer programs for children with physical or intellectual disabilities started in communities. This program adapts to the needs of each individual and allows each child to gain experience in a team sport in a non-competitive environment.

The CBAA TOPSoccer program is offered to children from 5 to 14 years of age (exceptions can be made for older children). The program consists of six to eight weekly one-hour sessions that provide a fun learning environment in which the players can develop soccer-related skills, learn how to play within a team, and build self-confidence in a positive and nurturing environment.

The exact schedule for all sessions will be determined prior to the start of each season and is posted on our team website.  If you believe your child would have an interest in this program, or if you would like to volunteer to help us with this program, please register.

TopSoccer Needs Buddies
Volunteer Buddies are essential to make the CBAA TOPSoccer program work. You should be at least 14 years of age to be a buddy. For more details visit  TOPSoccer

Fields

As everyone who plays at Herbst is well aware, the fields are used with high frequency for practice and games, for soccer and lacrosse, for league play and tournaments.  With this heavy use, and also dependent in part on weather conditions, the fields are at times in need of repair.  With this in mind, CBAA Soccer retained a turf management professional who implemented an innovative turf repair program at Herbst in December 2012.  Topsoil, seed, fertilizer, and turf mulch were applied to Fields 1, 2, 3, and 4, and "turf blankets" were used to cover these repaired areas.  The purpose of the turf blankets is to allow grass to germinate and develop, even in the cold of winter.  This was in addition to a "volunteer field maintenance day" at Herbst in October 2012, when a group of CBAA Soccer parent volunteers (special thanks to Ken Logue for leading this volunteer group) addressed small areas of significantly damaged turf throughout the Herbst complex.

CBAA Soccer is optimistic that spring 2013 will bring improved playing surfaces on Fields 1, 2, 3, and 4, and intends to apply lessons learned to a continued effort at maintaining quality playing fields at Herbst in years to come.

Andy Bullard

Director of Field Management

AEDs

What is an Automated External Defibrillator?

AEDs are specially designed for easy use by a "first responder," who would be the first person to typically arrive on the scene of a medical emergency. A first responder can be an emergency medical services worker, a firefighter or police officer, or it can be a layperson with minimal AED training.  Time to defibrillation, the most critical factor in sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survival, can be reduced if an AED is "on-site" and can be brought to the victim quickly. This is one of the reasons that survival rates improve in communities with active AED programs. Remember, every minute that passes before defibrillation reduces survival rates by 7 to10 percent.

An AED is a small, portable device that analyzes the heart's rhythm and prompts the user to deliver a defibrillation shock if it determines one is needed. Once turned on, the AED guides the user through each step of the defibrillation process by providing voice and/or visual prompts.
