Peer to Peer (P2P) Mentoring Program
 
The Peer to Peer (P2P) mentor program creates a support system for students by matching them with Mentors who connect them to their major, opportunities, resources on-campus, internships, and undergraduate research. Students choose when, where and how often to meet with their mentor. We currently have 13 peer mentors available from a variety of disciplines and majors.Find out how to get involved below.

Mobile GIS Workshop - Central Coast Joint Data Committee (CCJDC)

This  event will showcase successful implementations of mobile GIS in our area, as well as cutting-edge software and hardware options. Presentations will be followed by a participant-led discussion session, networking opportunities, and light lunch. Elevate 2016 "Next Level Leadership"

Elevate 2016 "Next Level Leadership" will be a conference aimed at students with all different levels of leadership experience. Elevate 2016 is FREE for all CSUMB students.

The conference has three tracks:
  • Launching Your Leadership (Entry Level: Those new to leadership)
  • There's No I in Team, but there's a U in Group(Mid Level: Team Dynamics)
  • Student to Professional (Advanced: Transferable Skills)
All those attending will receive complimentary lunch and in addition to free registration, the first 100 CSUMB students to register get perks such as a swag bag with all new CSUMB gear and extra entries into the opportunity drawing!

Spring Research and Creative Inquiry Showcase
CEQA Basics Workshop at CSUMB
Saturday April 23, 2016 (All day)
 
The very popular (and free) "CEQA-Basics" workshop will be held all day on April 23, 2016 in the Champan Science Center. Mark the date in your calendars in case you are interested in attending.

The California Environmental Quality Act is the statue that requires agencies to report potential environmental impacts related to their actions.  It is the process by which environmental impacts are reduced or mitigated.  Knowledge of CEQA regulations is essential in many of the career paths that past CSUMB students have followed.

The UCSF School of Pharmacy would like to invite you and your students to attend our Pharmacy Information Day event. The event highlights the pharmacy profession by looking at the various career opportunities and the required educational training. Participants will have the opportunity to hear and interact with pharmacists and current students to hear their insight of the profession and the pharmacy program here at UCSF. In addition, we will also be presenting updates to our curriculum and admissions processes. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with admission representatives at these events.

Kelp Forest Ecology Class - Hopkins Marine Station

Ecology & Conservation of Kelp Forest Communities,
Hopkins Marine Station, Pacific Grove, CA
Jun 20-Jul 22, 2016 (5-weeks), M-F, 5-units.
Summer tuition ($5080) will be covered; class size is limited.

The course is aimed at upper division undergraduates / beginning graduate students interested in benthic ecology & kelp forests. SCUBA certification (Advanced/Open Water II) & all personal diving gear is required (AAUS scientific certification is not required, but desirable).

Regenerative Sciences Institute - Biotechnology Course

This internship course is a condensed innovative successor to our highly competitive 6-month Biotechnology Internship Program. The new program is a 4-week course that is a hybrid of formal lectures, participatory exercises and small projects based on ongoing research, similar to what our interns have worked on in the past.  This new format will allow us to provide a wider range of material and serve more students annually.

CSU STEM VISTA Program

Graduating soon? Are you passionate about STEM education? Become a CSU STEM VISTA member and mobilize university and community resources to engage underserved students to aspire to, excel in, and complete degrees in the STEM fields.
CSU STEM VISTA Members are placed full time at one of the 23 CSU Campuses.  The STEM VISTA at CSUMB will work with the Science Internship Program. You can apply to work here at CSUMB with the SIP program, or with other programs at other campuses.

Oregon State University  Hydrology REU
Application Deadline: 04/01/16

OSU is seeking applicants for an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) position this summer to examine hydrologic connectivity along head water streams at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest (HJA). This research will contribute to understanding water sources and flow paths in streams, soils, and riparian vegetation based on spatial variability of water stable isotopes. The student will work closely with 2 faculty members at Oregon State University (Catalina Segura and David Noone). The student will be based primarily at the HJA but also will work at the watershed processes lab in Oregon State University (Corvallis) where she/he will be trained in water stable isotope analysis.

MLML-UROC Summer Research Program

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC) has partnered again with Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) to offer CSUMB undergraduates interested in marine ecology and physiology opportunities to engage in undergraduate research. This paid opportunity starts in early summer, partners undergraduates with graduate student mentors, and is accompanied by a summer workshop series that builds on the professional development skills that this research experience will provide. 

Eligibility criteria: 
- currently enrolled CSUMB students OR students transferring to CSUMB in Fall 2015 who have paid their Undergraduate Enrollment Confirmation Fee
- cumulative GPA of 2.75 minimum

This year there are 8 diverse research projects available for interested students to apply to, including several programs that require students who are AAUS scientific diving certified. See the projects HERE.

Natural Resource Specialist - Golden Gate Park

The Golden Gate Natural Resource Area Vegetation Team is currently recruiting for two new positions.

Position 1: Natural Resources Specialist with
the Habitat Restoration Team - This person will be focused in Tennessee Valley including leading the long running Tennessee Valley Tuesday volunteer.

Position 2: Natural Resources Specialist for the Redwood Creek Watershed - This person will be focused on invasive plant management and other natural resource issues in the Redwood Creek watershed on both NPS and State Parks lands. This position will work closely with One Tam, Conservancy and NPS staff.

Everyone's Harvest(EH) brings people and healthy food together! The nonprofit's mission is to provide access to healthy, affordable fruits and vegetables through certified farmer's markets and community food programs. Our vision is for every community to have fair and sustainable food systems. Employees will be given insight into non-profits and a deeper understanding of our current food systems. 

The Assistant Market Manager will oversee the Alisal market's administration, addressing participant and customer issues, collecting and tracking market income, and supervising market volunteers. The AMM will assist the Market Manager at the Pacific Grove market and also assist the Program Coordinator with various outreach activities in the community.

Sanctuary Exploration Center Docent Volunteers

Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS) is seeking dynamic individuals to become docents at the Sanctuary Exploration Center in Santa Cruz.  As an Exploration Center docent you will have the opportunity to:
  • Attend educational field trips
  • Interpret exhibits
  • Conduct guided tours
  • Assist in daily operations
  • Participate in programs and events 
The training program is designed to help you as a docent interpret the rich natural and cultural resources of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
The training program will be: April 9th 3rd - May 11th on Saturday Mornings (9am-12pm) and Wednesday evenings  (6pm-8:30pm)

Marine and Invasion Ecology Internships in SF Bay
Application deadline: ASAP

Interns are needed to assist with field and laboratory studies of marine invertebrate communities in San Francisco Bay. The positions are based at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center's Marine Invasions Lab located at the Romberg Tiburon Center in Tiburon, CA. The interns will assist with maintaining field experiments and conducting studies of invertebrate recruitment at three marinas in the SF Bay area on a biweekly basis. The interns will also assist with local logistical coordination and data entry for the project.

We are looking for 1 full-time intern for the full duration of the project, from April 2016 through May 2017, and 1 full-time intern to assist from April 2016 through July 2016.  Interns will receive a stipend of $400/week.

Interns will be integral members of our international research team and will engage with the science of marine and invasion ecology via regular meetings with project personnel based in the US, Mexico and Panama.

Marine Mammal Internship

This internship,  with the California Wildlife Center in Malibu, will provide an exciting and challenging educational experience in the marine mammal field, while also allowing for additional hands-on experience with other native wildlife. The interns will be working closely with the Marine Mammal staff in all aspects of stranding response and marine mammal rehabilitation; including logistics, assessment, capture/restraint, transport to the marine mammal rehabilitation facility, animal care, educating the public and public relations. In addition, interns will provide support to CWC Hospital staff in animal husbandry tasks for avian and terrestrial wildlife.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Marine Technology Society Scholarship
Application Deadline: 04/20/16

Each year MTS offers significant scholarships to college graduate, college undergraduate and senior high school students accepted into full-time marine-related programs with focus in marine technology, marine engineering and/or marine science.

As well, an applicant must be either full-time college student cur­rently enrolled in a either a 2-year or 4-year academic program OR a high school senior accepted to either a 2-year or 4-year academic program. Colleges may be international or domestic. Students who previously re­ceived one of the awards listed below are ineligible to apply the following year for the same award.

Groundwater Research Scholarship
Groundwater Resource Association of California Scholarship
The Central Coast branch of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRAC) has scholarship funds up to $2500 available for distribution to college and graduate students performing research on groundwater resources in the Central Coast branch region (generally, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties). GRAC wishes to support student research related to groundwater issues, water resources management, water recycling and other proposals related to groundwater research.

COAST Student Travel Awards
COAST Scholarship
The Council of Ocean Affairs, Science & Technology (COAST) provides travel support for CSU undergraduate and graduate students to present the results of original research at marine, estuarine and coastal-themed scientific meetings and conferences, or special thematic sessions of more general scientific meetings. Please note COAST has new guidelines and policies regarding travel reimbursements as of August 1, 2014. See award announcement for full details.
