National Park Service: Geoscientists in the parks (GIP) Program
Application deadline: 02/29/16 

The Geoscientists-in-the-Parks (GIP) program works with partners to match college students and recent graduates age 18 - 35 years old with short-term, paid, internships with the National Park Service. Participants may assist with research, synthesis of scientific literature, geologic mapping, GIS analysis, site evaluations, resource inventorying and monitoring, impact mitigation, developing brochures and informative media presentations, and educating park staff and park visitors. GIP positions can last from 3 months to one-year.

Biological Science Technician with Forest Service
Application deadline: 02/10/16 

The U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station will be filling six temporary positions for the summer of 2016 (approximately late May/early June through late August to mid-September - start and end dates somewhat flexible) to assist with forestry and forest ecology research. The duty station for the positions will be Pinecrest, California, 35 miles east of Sonora in the central Sierra Nevada. Crew members will be hired at the GS-4 level ($13.84/hour) and the GS-5 level ($15.49/hour) based on education and experience.

Pennington Marine Science Center Internships

The Pennington Marine Science Center, located on Catalina Island, is hiring four paid internships for the summer of 2016. Marine Science Education and Aquarist Interns report to the Director of Marine Science. Interns play a key role in the husbandry of temperate marine fish and invertebrates, maintaining the appearance of exhibits, teaching marine science to a diverse group of scouts and students, accessions and de-accessions of animals in the collection.

Fully-funded Fellowship in Earth Science teaching @ The American Museum of Natural History

With a sole focus on preparing new Earth science teachers, the program is a full-time, 15-month Master's program that takes place at the museum and in urban partner schools. They seek a student body with diverse life and career experience, and the application is open to all candidates meeting the eligibility requirements. All degree candidates will receive free tuition and books and a $30,000 living stipend. In return, candidates commit to teaching in a high-need school in New York State for four years.

Backcountry Trails Program - CA Conservation Corps

CCC is looking for 95 diverse women and men (18-26yrs old) who are willing to leave behind the conveniences of modern life and venture into the mountains to spend five exhausting months doing some of the most challenging and ultimately rewarding work of their lives. They are putting together six crews located in wilderness areas throughout California that will be living in backcountry camps and performing trail work. CCC is a highly structured, regimented program that focuses on hard work, personal growth, community development...and some adventure.

Epidemiology & Informatics Fellowship Opportunities 

CDC/CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellowship
CSTE, in collaboration with CDC, the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), established the Applied Epidemiology Fellowship to train recent graduates in the expanding field of applied epidemiology. The goal of the fellowship is to provide a high quality training experience and to secure long-term career placement for fellows at the state or local level. Participating fellows will receive two years of on-the-job training at a state or local health agency under the guidance of an experienced mentor. The fellowship's mission is to meet the nation's ongoing need for applied epidemiology workforce capacity in state and local health departments through a national fellowship-training program.

FishWise Independent Contractor: Fishery Improvement Project Research

SCHOLARSHIPS
North Pacific Research Board Graduate Student Research Awards
Application deadline: 2/12/16

In May 2016, NPRB will award six or more Master's or Doctoral Graduate Student Research Awards of $25,000 each to qualified students. Students must address scientific, technological, and socio-economic issues relating to the research themes identified in the 2005 NPRB Science Plan. Students are limited to one award per degree. Award funds may be used for graduate student stipend and standard benefits, tuition or required university fees, or for specific research expenses such as travel, supplies, and laboratory analyses. Indirect costs are not allowed. One hundred percent of the funds must be used for the benefit of the graduate student, who will determine how the funds are divided among the allowable uses.
To be eligible for a NPRB Graduate Student Research Award, students must be enrolled in or accepted by a graduate degree program at an accredited university or college by the application deadline. Read the full eligibility requirements before applying.

Myers Trust: 2016 Request for Grant Proposals

Each year the Myers Trust awards grants to central California graduate students in the marine sciences. The Trust has been awarding grants for the past 30 years. 

The average award is approximately $1,000 - $2,000 depending in part on the number of proposals funded and the income available to the Trust.

2016 CSUPERB Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for New Investigator, Research Development, Entrepreneurial Joint Venture Matching and Curriculum Development Grant Programs are now open! CSUPERB defines biotechnology quite broadly and welcomes and encourages applications from all related disciplines, including but not limited to life sciences, physical sciences, clinical sciences, math, computer science, agricultural science, engineering and business.

Groundwater Research Scholarship
Groundwater Resource Association of California Scholarship
The Central Coast branch of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRAC) has scholarship funds up to $2500 available for distribution to college and graduate students performing research on groundwater resources in the Central Coast branch region (generally, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties). GRAC wishes to support student research related to groundwater issues, water resources management, water recycling and other proposals related to groundwater research.
