Python Programming Course: Moss Landing Marine Labs
January 9 - February 20, 2016

For those of you interested in working with large datasets using Python, next semester, MLML will be hosting a Python programming course/workshop. Python is a free, open-source programming language that is heavily used in bioinformatics, geospatial data analysis, and database management.

The course is run through Coursera. The way this would be structured is that anyone interested would enroll through Coursera and meet a couple evenings a week to discuss assignments and help one another troubleshoot code.

The focus of the class is game design (however, the skills can be applied broadly).  If everything goes well, we will all work together on an additional, final game that is marine biology themed.  This final game can be used for outreach at open house or on the web.  Finally, we will discuss some tools like Biopython, and GIS.
