Noah Luecke

Plant pathogens affect our environment in a large way. In 2012 Phytophthora tentaculata was detected in California and has been devastating native plant nurseries and created a potential hazard for our natural ecosystem. Noah's  project has been to assist in the development of molecular techniques for detection as well as trying to find ways understand the potential effect this pathogen could have in our backyard.

The Marin Municipal Water District has a need for Watershed Aides, to serve in one of five distinct areas. These positions are all within the Watershed Management programs of the District's Facilities & Watershed Management Division, and are in the five areas of:

California Public Utilities Commission - Energy Division Accessibility and Tech Intern

Under limited supervision and at the direction of the Marketing and Outreach Manager, the Community Outreach Specialist assists in the delivery of a wide range of community outreach efforts to promote Central Coast Energy Services' programs at various locations throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Mateo Counties. The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for sourcing outreach locations, developing relationships with partner agency staff, and establishing activities schedules. Delta Science Fellowship
California Sea Grant Postdoctoral and Graduate Fellowships
Application Deadline: 11/18/15

The Delta Science Fellows Program was established to bring together graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with Bay-Delta agency scientists and senior research mentors. Fellows work on collaborative data analysis and research projects applicable to the California Bay-Delta system. The goal of funding this research is to invest in knowledge that will fundamentally advance the understanding of the complex environments and systems within the Bay-Delta system to aid policy-makers and managers, and to train the next generation of research scientists for water issues in California.
A combined total of approximately six postdoctoral and graduate fellowships are anticipated to be  awarded for proposals addressing the 2015 priority research topics.

Groundwater Research Scholarship
Groundwater Resource Association of California Scholarship
The Central Coast branch of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRAC) has scholarship funds up to $2500 available for distribution to college and graduate students performing research on groundwater resources in the Central Coast branch region (generally, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties). GRAC wishes to support student research related to groundwater issues, water resources management, water recycling and other proposals related to groundwater research. We also have funds available for students who would like to attend the 30th Biennial Groundwater Conference & 24th Groundwater Resources Association of Calif

The Council of Ocean Affairs, Science & Technology (COAST) provides travel support for CSU undergraduate and graduate students to present the results of original research at marine, estuarine and coastal-themed scientific meetings and conferences, or special thematic sessions of more general scientific meetings. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
2016 Watershed Science Master Class 
January 17-22nd, 2016 in Tuscon, Arizona

The course will be held at University of Arizona's Biosphere 2 facility, outside of Tucson, Arizona. Double occupancy housing, all meals while on site, and shuttle transportation to/from Tucson International Airport are included in the course fee.

This week long course will focus on hydrological and biogeochemical watershed processes including theory, experimental design, and modeling. Differing perspectives will be provided by leading scientists in the field. Course learning objectives include:
  • Rainfall-runoff processes and landscape hydrology
  • Combined use of hydrometric and tracer approaches
  • Simulation models for data synthesis, hypothesis testing and scenario development
