Robert Moyneur
Robert studies the impacts of hypoxia on fish behavior.His research uses laboratory experimentation and field observations to quantify these effects. In the field he built a custom underwater camera system (SquidPod) to independently control a GoPro and monitor fish movements, co-located with other sensors. In the laboratory, I am conducting an experiment measuring the startle response in juvenile rockfish across a range of oxygen levels and exposure durations.

Sea Otter Awareness Week talk

The speaker will be Chris Law from Tim Tinker's lab at UCSC, who will be talking about why some sea otters are chest bangers and others are jaw crunchers when it comes to eating.

The Urban Death Project

When: Fri, Oct 2, 4-5pm

Katrina Spade is the founder and director of the Urban Death Project, a new option for the care of our deceased that uses the process of composting to turn us into soil. The project has been featured in the New York Times, Grist, the Atlantic, and NPR, and recently held a successful Kickstarter campaign with over 1200 backers from all over the world.

Please consider alternative transportation options to attend or carpool if at all possible.

Join us for the Central Coast GIS Day. Learn about Geographic Information Systems and how they are being used in our area. We will be hearing presentations from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), Monterey Peninsula College (MPC), SeaSpatial, Monterey Bay National Marina Sanctuary (MBNMS) and there will also be a live Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) demo.

Washington Dept.  of Natural Resources: LiDAR Positions

Full-time position

These 2 positions serve as the GIS expert for the DNR-DGER LiDAR program on LiDAR derived products such as contours, aspect, slope, and shaded relief maps for use by hazard geologists, the public, and other agencies. As a research project leader, they independently develop LiDAR based topographical derivatives, set priorities for product development, and act as internal consultant on derivative products.

Join a team of 46 committed individuals throughout California engaged in watershed protection, community outreach and education, and restoration projects! The California Public Utilities Commission's Energy Division will host graduate or undergraduate student interns this fall. Under the guidance of senior analysts and engineers, paid interns will assist staff in daily tasks and will be given the opportunity to lead a small project or initiative relating to emerging energy issues in California. Community Outreach Specialist

Under limited supervision and at the direction of the Marketing and Outreach Manager, the Community Outreach Specialist assists in the delivery of a wide range of community outreach efforts to promote Central Coast Energy Services' programs at various locations throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Mateo Counties. The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for sourcing outreach locations, developing relationships with partner agency staff, and establishing activities schedules. The types of information distribution and application intake sites we serve may include: community based organization offices, county offices, food bank distribution sites and community events. The Community Outreach Specialist may be expected to work in the field up to 75% of time, including evenings and weekends.

Working under the Conservation GIS Coordinator and with planning department staff, this full-time position will support a variety of GIS and planning efforts, including GIS administration; evaluation of potential land acquisitions; conservation easement

2016 Sea Grant State Fellowship

The California Sea Grant College Program is soliciting applications for the 2016 California State Fellows Program. The State Fellows Program provides a unique educational opportunity for graduate students who are interested both in marine resources and in the policy decisions affecting those resources in California. The program matches highly motivated and qualified graduate students and recent graduates with "hosts" in State or Federal agencies in California for a 12-month paid fellowship ($3,600 per month).

Groundwater Research Scholarship
Groundwater Resource Association of California Scholarship
The Central Coast branch of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRAC) has scholarship funds up to $2500 available for distribution to college and graduate students performing research on groundwater resources in the Central Coast branch region (generally, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties). GRAC wishes to support student research related to groundwater issues, water resources management, water recycling and other proposals related to groundwater research. We also have funds available for students who would like to attend the 30th Biennial Groundwater Conference & 24th Groundwater Resources Association of Calif

The Rapid Response Funding Program provides funding for projects that require a quick response outside of the existing annual COAST funding programs. Projects can include response to unexpected or sudden events, those that have a short opportunity to access data, facilities or specialized equipment or problems that require immediate attention.
