Sea Otter Awareness Week Talk

Annual Sea Otter Awareness Week talk on Thursday, September 24 in the CSUMB University Living Room at 7PM. The speaker will be Chris Law from Tim Tinker's lab at UCSC, who will be talking about why some sea otters are chest bangers and others are jaw crunchers when it comes to eating.

Central Coast GIS Day - November 18th

Join us at the MPC Satellite campus in Marina for the Central Coast GIS Day. Learn about Geographic Information Systems and how they are being used in our area. We will be hearing presentations from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), Monterey Peninsula College (MPC), SeaSpatial, Monterey Bay National Marina Sanctuary (MBNMS) and there will also be a live Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) demo.

Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program:

2016 Summer Internship

The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) provides an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer.
The goals of NREIP are to encourage participating students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN.

2015 Fall Internship

The California Public Utilities Commission's Energy Division will host graduate or undergraduate student interns this fall. Under the guidance of senior analysts and engineers, paid interns will assist staff in daily tasks and will be given the opportunity to lead a small project or initiative relating to emerging energy issues in California. In addition to their specific job duties, all interns will be invited to learn about diverse policy issues and to participate broadly in Energy Division activities by attending meetings, workshops, and Commission Business Meetings.

Environmental Education Intern

2015 Fall & Spring Internship

Intern will assist with education and outreach related projects of CA B-WETandOcean Guardian School with a primary focus on the coordination of this year's Students for Zero Waste Week Campaign
Projects will include but are not limited to:
- Updating a variety of program documents and related webpages for B-WET and Ocean Guardian School websites,
- Research and development of new Ocean Guardian School video that will focus on interviews with scientists in select topic areas
- Coordination of Students for Zero Waste Week campaign including: updating and distribution of program materials, coordinating program communications with participating schools via regular emails, supporting participating schools, assisting with production of ZWW webinar,participation in Zero Waste Week Youth Convergence, assisting with program evaluation

Ecological Restoration Intern

The Park Stewardship Program is seeking a motivated intern to work in a dynamic community-based habitat restoration program in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a destination for both locals and international visitors with its sweeping vistas, immense biological diversity, and unique cultural resources. With over 15 million visitors annually and over 80,000 acres of land, it is the largest urban national park in the country

Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District

The District invites students and teachers in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties to apply for grants that use creativity and imagination, to help the District improve air quality and build a better future with informed and motivated young people. The District is soliciting projects from high school (9-12th grades) and college undergraduate students.

MEarth NatureConnect Intern Position

The NatureConnect intern will assist in maintaining native plant nursery and mature native plant habitat and active restoration plots. Activities could include: watering, weeding, propagating and off site restoration. Groundwater Research Scholarship
Groundwater Resource Association of California Scholarship
The Central Coast branch of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRAC) has scholarship funds up to $2500 available for distribution to college and graduate students performing research on groundwater resources in the Central Coast branch region (generally, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties). GRAC wishes to support student research related to groundwater issues, water resources management, water recycling and other proposals related to groundwater research. We also have funds available for students who would like to attend the 30th Biennial Groundwater Conference & 24th Groundwater Resources Association of Calif 

ornia Annual Meeting in Sacramento on October 6 & 7, 2015.

COAST Student Travel Awards
COAST Scholarship
The Council of Ocean Affairs, Science & Technology (COAST) provides travel support for CSU undergraduate and graduate students to present the results of original research at marine, estuarine and coastal-themed scientific meetings and conferences, or special thematic sessions of more general scientific meetings.
