Meeting Water Challenges on the Central Coast
Middlebury Institute of International Studies
August 18, 2015 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The ongoing drought has put a spotlight on the challenges of managing water scarcity on the Central Coast. Join California American Water and the Public Policy Institute of California for an evening forum exploring the region's unique challenges and local strategies for meeting water demands of cities, farms, and the environment. The program features a panel of national, state, and local leaders who will discuss how to address current and future water issues.

Environmental Systems Dynamics Lab

The candidate would be providing laboratory support for ongoing projects in the ESDL. This entails ensuring that laboratory and field instrumentation are running smoothly, performing sample analysis, preparing reagents, and assisting with the setup of a new laboratory flume for studies of sediment transport in vegetation canopies. Limited field work will likely also be required.

Return of the Natives Weed Associate
Seaside, CA

The Return of the Native Associates will work with the Supervisory Biological Science Technician and other BLM staff who make up the FONM Weed Crew who will provide direction and guidance to the associates. Work will be conducted in teams of 2 to 6 people and will primarily involve the removal of invasive plant species using a variety of techniques including spraying herbicide.  In almost all cases, BLM staff will be working alongside the Associates to provide direction and ensure work is conducted in a safe manner on BLM lands.  While working in Army range areas, BLM staff and/or U.S. Army contractors will always be present.

PULSE Fellow

PULSE is soliciting our first round of annual applications from life sciences faculty throughout the United States to become PULSE Fellows.  As many as 15 new PULSE Fellows will join a committed group of 40 existing PULSE Fellows to create materials and programs that stimulate and support department reform and ongoing improvement, propel organizational change by supporting departmental and institutional leaders who are effecting such change, develop standards of excellence adaptable to the mission of each institution, build regional networks for departments to share best practices across institutions of all types, and promote connections among national organizations with similar missions to broaden the impact of all.

Environmental Educator (Seasonal)
Crissy Field Center

The primary responsibility of the Environmental Educator is to deliver environmental science education programs to youth engaged in Crissy Field Center's high school program, Project WISE. Project WISE is a 15 year partnership with San Francisco Unified School District and the Galileo Academy of Science and Technology. Students who are in the program take weekly field trips to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and use the national park as a place for learning about environmental science topics such as water quality, air pollution, wildlife populations and geology.

Urban Ecology Educator

The primary responsibility of the Urban Ecology Educator is to deliver relevant and rigorous environmental science education programs to youth engaged in Crissy Field Center's programs. This includes working extensively with Project WISE, a high school environmental science program, as well the Crissy Field Center's youth leadership and elementary school programs. The programs implemented by this position will meet the mission of the Crissy Field Center and take advantage of the rich natural and cultural resources in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In addition, this position supports management of educational supplies and resources, and tracking and documentation of programs. Creativity, flexibility and the ability to work with diverse communities is the foundation of this position. The Urban Ecology Educator reports to the Senior Specialist.

Chabot Programs & Community Partnership Coordinator

The Programs & Community Partnerships Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivery of programs, building community and programmatic partnerships, events and activities for public audiences in order to increase visitor attendance and revenue generation. Working directly with the  Senior Manager of Visitor Engagement, responsibilities include daily coordination of 18-month rolling calendar, working with adult and teen volunteers, and appropriate visitor experience staff in order to deliver programs, events and activities. This role supports the day-to-day delivery of "wow customer service" and fun and unique public programs. This role helps to maintain community partnership relationships in support of unique program delivery.

Chabot On-Call Science Instructor

The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach science classes and workshops on an on-call basis during days, evenings and weekends for various audiences participating in Chabot Space & Science Center educational programs, both onsite at the science center and offsite during outreach programs delivered in the community.

Sea Goddess Whale Watching, a new Monterey Bay whale watching company located in Moss Landing is looking for a friendly and sociable individual with a strong knowledge of local sea life/wildlife.They conduct daily excursions departing at 9:30 am | 12:30 pm | 3:30 pm on Monterey Bay and want a naturalist who can confidently answer questions as well as promote a positive, enthusiastic, and fun experience.

Must be able to pass random drug screenings
Not prone to sea sickness
Energetic, outgoing & sociable demeanor

Groundwater Research Scholarship
Groundwater Resource Association of California Scholarship
The Central Coast branch of the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRAC) has scholarship funds up to $2500 available for distribution to college and graduate students performing research on groundwater resources in the Central Coast branch region (generally, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties). GRAC wishes to support student research related to groundwater issues, water resources management, water recycling and other proposals related to groundwater research. We also have funds available for students who would like to attend the 30th Biennial Groundwater Conference & 24th Groundwater Resources Association of Calif 

ornia Annual Meeting in Sacramento on October 6 & 7, 2015.
