Meritas Visit
Lake Mary Prep fifth grade students joined leaders of Middle and Upper School to meet Jeremy Wheaton, COO of Meritas, on Monday.
Fifth graders shared with Mr. Wheaton what they love about their school, and how important it is to be connected to other Meritas Schools. They asked him to check that all schools are participating in FCE because, in their words, " it is one of the most important things we do here." They asked probing questions, such as "Do you plan on adding more schools to the Meritas Family of Schools?," and "What do you think will be different about education by the time I graduate in 2020?" Mr. Wheaton indicated that he was impressed by the caliber of discussion by LMP students!
Beowolf Visits the Fifth Grade!
Ms. Morrell's senior classes visited fifth grade students to tell the story of Beowulf. The seniors rewrite this classic story for their fifth grade audience, including one group who challenged themselves to write the story as a poem. Beowulf comes alive through props, costumes, modern language, and art work. In addition, fifth grade students learn about the collaborative effort of each group as they rewrite the story.
After the presentations, the fifth graders could be heard discussing what they will do when they become seniors and have the opportunity to act out this literary classic. Thank you, seniors, for sharing your vision with the Lower School.
Spooktacular
Spooktacular was a spectacular event for Lower School students and their parents! Students wrapped mummies, did the Monster Mash, had their faces painted, and listened to spooky stories! The Scholastic Book Fair provided books for many more stories to enjoy. What a way to kick off the Fall season!
