Family and Haiti Update - May 2015

                                                from: Kendra and the boys
Dear Friends and Family

I have a special and urgent prayer request that I wondered if you would remember?  Our family has an immediate and important need for transportation!! The younger two boys and I moved (short term) to Haiti a couple months ago and Landon joined us a few weeks ago.

Our 12 passenger Hyundai diesel van (affectionately named Floyd) has been in "dry dock" for over six months now.   After countless hours of kind labor by technicians from the UN Paraguayan and Brazilian bases it seems that the whole computer system may need to be rebooted or replaced.

We have literally sent to Korea, the Dominican Republic and the United States for parts - none of which resolved the problem!  The issue with rebooting the computer system is that even the local Hyundai dealer does not have the correct equipment to do the job.  The vehicle is not marketed in Haiti.

Pray for a solution as I return to the Hyundai dealer to make another attempt at finding equipment that may work to resolve the problem.

Since public transportation is not a safe and practical option ....we have been routinely overloading and driving the "tires off" our 1992 Toyota Corolla station wagon!  Port Au Prince may be one of the only capitol cities in the world that you need a four wheel drive to transit the streets of the city!  The Toyota "bottoms out" frequently as it is very low to the ground!

We have been "making due" with our 1992 Toyota Corolla station wagon which has so many miles the odometer has lost count!  Security issues make it unadvisable to transit the city with windows down.  The air conditioning works "occasionally" making the daily hours we spend in Port Au Prince traffic a "free sauna" experience!!

A few days ago, I was planning to drive  in the car for 6 hours to Barahona in the Dominican Republic where tires and front end parts for the Toyota car are more economical and accessible.  Before I left, I went by a shop to investigate a thumping I was feeling...the tires and front end problems were so bad I would not have safely made the trip.  Tires and parts are very expensive here in Haiti.  I spent about $600 on two front tires and front end parts to get the vehicle safely functional again.  I am praying that God would provide the way to cover this extra expenses as we are very tight financially.  If you could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Let me Share Some Recent Happenings - I will be writing more details after resolving the current mobility crisis:

1.)  My precious GG - My grandma...

Bethavery Victoria Smith Voller went home to be with Jesus on April 18, 2015

I was not able to be right at her side as she entered heaven because I was leading a team in Haiti.

In February, I had the privilege of driving to Florida and bringing her back since the doctors said she could not fly.  She had gone to Florida with my parents for a week vacation when she suddenly became ill.  We turned my parents van into a medical transport vehicle complete with oxygen, bed, and port-o-potty.

2.) I made two last minute return trips to the US from Haiti during GG's illness, death and funeral.

3.)  Nathan, Andersen and myself have hosted two teams from Davison Free Methodist Church.

4.)  We were delighted to receive Pastor Brenda Young and Jessica Young - a delegation from Clear Blue Global Water Projects.

5.)  We transported and are feeding a nutrition based rice casserole meal for 600 school children and 150 people in New Life village.  People here can often go several days without a meal because food is scarce and expensive.

6.)  In the process of negotiating with the Land owner regarding the Village - Please pray for this - it is a very complicated and delicate situation - there will be many more details to come soon!!

7.)  Two younger boys started in the Haitian National youth soccer development program and home school program through Morning Star Christian Academy.

8.) Constructed the foundation and walls for three rooms of Pastor Renauld's home.

9.)  The new land near the Village was purchased by UCBLP for 250 families but it will not be ready in time to receive the families of New Life Village.

10.)  Showed the Jesus film in two locations.

11.)  Three quarters completed on the construction of a basketball court for Shilet's school of 400 kids.

12.)  Preaching in the chapel services of the UN Peruvian division.

13.)  Started Landon on his studies to complete his second semester courses.

14.)  Distributed soccer balls, uniforms and cleats for use by kids in the schools and New Life Village.

In the near future I will be writing and sharing more about the great things we are seeing God do.  These first five months of 2015 have been a combination of ...stretching, emotional, difficult, rewarding and action packed.  I have to admit I am tired.  Without the help of the Lord, I am prone to worry.  Please pray for our family and the work here.  Financially, we need to see God provide additional funds so that we can continue reaching out to the poor and fulfilling the calling we have been give.  Would you consider partnering with our family?  We are deeply grateful for your prayers and care!
