This Friday
Rob Mellon of the Quincy Historical Society will be our guest speaker this coming Friday. Founded in 1893 by local citizens led by Charles Francis Adams, Jr., Quincy Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting knowledge about the full range of Quincy history. Sounds like a great meeting to bring a prospective member with you.

Our guest was motivational speaker Bruce Boguski of Findley Ohio, who was our Character Champion program speaker as well. Bruce was the featured speaker at several other locations in the Quincy area after his presentations at the Character Champions last week. We were privileged to have him with us two years ago and he did another wonderful job again this year.

He spoke to the club about not using words like can't and don't and on how to be positive in the way we speak and act. He referenced a story regarding a woman who couldn't read or write who made over a million dollars on a book she wrote and called "Everything Men Know About Women". The book was about 40 pages long and featured nothing but blank pages between the front and back cover. This woman took her disability and made herself rich with a positive approach. Bruce also mentioned that we all need to smile more which has been proven to help students to better grades. If anyone knows how to be positive it is Bruce who has overcome a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed and told he would never walk and was given one year to live after getting leukemia...that was 5 years ago and he is still going strong. Thanks to Chuck Venvertloh for his introduction.
Birthdays and Anniversaries

One of those rare weeks with no birthdays or anniversaries

Upcoming dates of interest:

9/20 - Board meeting - Riverside Smoke House, 11:45. All board members are requested to attend, all members are welcome

9/30 - Road trip to Chaddock to tour their new facilities

This and That

John Spring presented the prayer to initiate the meeting. That was followed by Rick Veihl's determined "I" to begin the Pledge of Allegiance with no one sitting down during it.

Cory Watson returned with the 50-50 card draw last week. The pot, worth over $276, will be available for winning again this Friday after Darin Duke drew a 5 of Hearts.

The Tail-Twister duties fell upon Bruce Broemmel who, during his tour of tables, told a joke. It was a joke that actually drew boos from the membership. Think it is easy? Who wants to be the new Tail Twister? Hang in there Bruce.

The "Bounty Towel" moment belongs to Kent Anderson who managed to spill his drink at his table. Never have 4 other Exchangites moved so fast. Olympic Sprinter Usain Bolt didn't have first steps that fast.

Thanks to Chuck Venvertloh for another successful Character Champions event. There were 180 high school students on Tuesday and some 80 junior high students on Wednesday. Thanks to the members who assisted Chuck with the 13th anniversary of this wonderful event.

Call him Ace Parker after Chris Parker fired a Hole-in-One Labor Day weekend at Spring Lake Country Club. Chris, who has aced the 19th hole several times, aced the #2 hole this time. It's all how you bend your arm. By the way Parker's gem on #2 was witnessed by Helen Keller, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles. His previous 19th hole aces have been witnessed by Art Awerkamp and Skip Rueter. What does that tell ya!

Good to see former member Jim Benz with us a guest and Dick Wentura brought former member Charlie Doan to the meeting last Friday.

Line of the Week

The line belongs to our speaker who referenced our ability to remember commercials from years ago. For instance, he asked the members to finish this line. "How do you spell Relief?" The Club responded collectively "R.O.L.A.I.D.S".

 - No, said Bruce. "It's F.A.R.T."

Remembering 9 11

After 15 years, the attacks of September 11, 2001, memories are still fresh.Nearly 3,000 people in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania lost their lives in attacks carried out with hijacked airplanes by terrorists by Islamic terrorists.

One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, serves as a marker of resilience in the face of tragedy. There are also memorials near the Pentagon and in Stoystown, Pennsylvania

This year, to honor the anniversary, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City-which opened in 2014-will host its first art exhibition. "Rendering the Unthinkable: Artists Respond to 9/11" will feature works from 13 artists affected by the attacks.

The exhibition will complement the permanent parts of the museum that document the tragedy of that day. Clifford Chanin, vice president of education and public programs at the museum, said in a previous interview that "many of the images from 9/11 still convey the rawness and brutality of the attack ... they still have the capacity to shock."
