This Friday
We take a road trip to Quincy Senior High School to look at the renovations made over the summer. I am surprised it isn't the Junior High School based upon our behavior each week. If you show up at the Elks Lodge you will be asked to stay after class next week.
Friday Last

There were plenty of "Fore's" yelled out over the 18 hole layout of Spring Lake Country Club last Friday, including the "Fore" brats that Rich Howell devoured at lunch prior to teeing off. Thanks to Jared Haugh for chairing the annual golf outing. We had six teams play Friday and prior to their teeing off we held a "Putt Off' with Mike Lavery winning an autographed Luke Guthrie Golf Cap. Brian Musholt came in second and won absolutely nothing. Isn't this a great club? Either you win or you are nothing.

The rain ended up shortening the day for some of the teams, but a few finished 18. Didn't matter though, as Jared's team won the event. A few stories to share this Friday, I'm sure.

This and That

Jared Haugh presented the prayer through a phone call believed to be from Joe Quinn to Perry Terwelp. Only God and Perry knows what Joe wanted.

The Pledge of Allegiance was presented by Joel Koch with eloquence (at least the first three words). What ever happened to just saying "I"?

President Brian Koch conducted the short meeting in the banquet room of Spring Lake Country Club.
Perry Terwelp thanked the Club for sponsoring the KARE event at the KC BBQ which enabled special needs children a chance to ride the rides before the general public got the opportunity.

Joel Koch was brave enough to bring a guest to the Club Friday. It was Bob Crockett who actually played golf as well. David Morgan was also a guest at the meeting as well.

It was really great to see Tim Wiewel return to the Club Friday. Hopefully, we will see more of Tim in the future.

Rick Veihl won the Card Draw in his dreams since we didn't hold one last Friday. Gee, even when we don't play Rick seems to win.

There was no Tail-Twister event last Friday either. Looks like we just ate and played golf. Life is good! I'll write it again...what a great Club!.

A reminder that the August Board Meeting will be held today (Tuesday) at Riverside Smoke House. The meeting begins at 11:45 and is open to all members not just board members. The cost is $10 for lunch if you eat lunch. $0 if you don't.

Line of the Week

The first line goes to Jared Haugh who, while criticizing Dennis Koch's golfing ability, mentioned he did get a

 - "Howell-in-one".

This was in reference to his striking Rich Howell last year with a golf ball.

Youth of the Month Program

As another school year gets under way, we'll start honoring our six Youth's of the month - three seniors each from Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy High School. One of the those six will have their essay selected and be named the Youth of the Year and will represent our club at the District competition.

The National Youth of the Year receives a paid package to the national convention, where they present their essay to the members gathered and receive a scholarship check for $10,000.

It's a tough competition - this year's national Youth of the Year was Han Wen Zhang, sponsored by the Sugarland TX club. Han Wen not only carries a 5.81 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), she speaks 3 languages fluently and was given the opportunity to develop and teach a French language studies curriculum to elementary students at a low-performing school with great results. Han Wen will be attending Columbia University this fall.

Good luck to all of our seniors this year!
