This Friday
Our speaker this Friday will be Sophie Marcola, who will talk about the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington D.C. More than 1,500 students from all across America take part in the Youth Tour experience each year, all sponsored by America's Electric Cooperatives. Should be a great program, with our resident Co-Op guy, Bill Stalder of Adams Electric Cooperative, making the introduction. Another good program to bring a guest or prospective member!

Joi Austin, Marketing Director at the Great River Economic Development Foundation (better known as GREDF) was our speaker at last week's meeting.

Joi talked about several of the initiatives that GREDF is working on, including the new marketing campaign - Quincy, Right on Q. Speaking of the "Q", marketing materials are available at no charge from the Foundation - just stop in at the Civic Center or give them a call at (217) 223-4313.

GREDF has been busy meeting with local employers and has been having discussions with a couple of local companies looking to expand. They have also been working on job-readiness, a big hurdle when trying to attract new businesses, in order to have the right kind of workforce available in Quiincy. A new marketing partnership with Macomb and Galesburg is also in the works.

Thanks to Program Chair and Adams County Clerk Chuck Venvertloh for the introductions!

This and That

Mike Lavering began the meeting by praying that the media would stop calling us the Rust Belt which was followed by a startled Steve Peters searching for an "I" to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.

Forgetting that he complained throughout the Haugh administration about having the Tail-Twister go first with a container full of card draw tickets, Brian called on Rick Gengenbacher to twist a few tails. Rick's story about Dick Wentura trying to raise something from the dead had to be told with his back to our lovely speaker.

Joel Koch conducted the card draw and you'll never guess that Rick Veihl had the right number, but wrong card (again). One day soon, the pot will grow above the $200 minimum, but probably not this week. (Just remember, the more you buy, the quicker it grows!)

A reminder that our annual Exchange Club Golf outing will be held after our meeting on August 12 at Spring Lake Country Club. This is for members and guests (prospective members) as well. Sign-up sheets were on the tables this week and will be the 2 weeks as well. If you aren't going to be at a meeting the next two weeks (and why wouldn't you be?), you can also contact Jared to let him know you want to play. Apparently, our social chairman is going to put the foursomes together..

One guest this week - the mighty Quinn Stalder was the guest of his father Bill. Good to see you Quinn!

Hopefully, the Big Dog will be back next week, so you'll get a better bulletin - Substitute Sidesaddle Schmoe

Exchange Minute

Happy New Year!

President Brian made the announcement that he would be in contact with all of the various program chairs this week to get the projects in motion for the year.

This would be a great time to step forward and volunteer for a committee! Many of our committee chairs have been in place for a number of years and all of them do a fantastic job, but it's important to have good committees and start grooming the next bunch of club leaders.

Just a refresher - our National Project is the prevention of child abuse and, in addition to giving money to organizations like Cornerstone, Children's Advocacy Network and Transitions, we also have a committee that puts on the foster children's Christmas party.

Our programs of service include Americanism - We have the Field of Honor and Flags of Honor programs, as well as several other opportunities for everyone to get involved. Community Service projects from Golden Deeds to Law Officer and Firefighter of the Year, Adopt a Grandparent and others are available. And we have many Youth projects to fill the year.

It's not just a Friday lunch club - and we need everyone to help us make Quincy a better place to live work and play!
