This Friday
It is our annual Flag Day program as we honor those who have a patriotic flag display at their place of business or residence. Dennis Koch is the Chairman for this event and he will make several presentations to the local owners of these displays. Bring a guest and here their stories!
Friday Last

The topic was the recent 2016 Tri-State Pro-Am Golf Tournament held at Spring Lake Country Club. The chairman of the event, Greg Feldberg, was our speaker. Greg shared with the club some of the preparation that went in to pulling off this major event that featured 18 PGA and or LPGA Tour golfers who participated. Some 140 volunteers assisted with the event which secured over $20-thousand for local charities. According to Mr. Feldberg some 700 to 1000 spectators witnessed the day's activities. It was also announced that next year celebrities will be added to the event with Daniel Lawrence Whitney, otherwise known as Larry the Cable Guy verbally agreeing to attend next year's event which will also be held at Spring Lake Country Club. It cost the organization some $25-thoussnd in travel expenses to pull of this event and that is one number they hope to diminish for next year. Greg was presented to the Club with an absolutely stirring introduction by Jared Haugh.

This and That

President Jared Haugh, counting down the days of his presidency, opened the meeting with the prayer which included an already standing ovation after his comment of "only two more weeks to go".

Having filled his belly with a hot dog and a hamburger, Rich Howell was ready to let out a far_  fetching "I" to initiate the Pledge of Allegiance. Your thought may have happened too, but only his table knows for sure.

Cory Watson conducted the 50-50 card draw and Dick Wentura, with enough tickets to cover the Elks Lodge bathroom, got to draw a card and selected a 7 of Spades. Therefore, the pot just might climb above the $200 mark next week.

Jeff Dorsey was the Tail-Twister for last Friday's meeting and collected the much needed dollars for the "Widows and Orphans Fund". It is a fund that I, a member of this Club for many years, have never seen but have been the beneficiary of its existence in the past. It has led many to have an elbow injury in past years. Dorsey also told a horse purchasing story that would have made Mr. Ed blush! Wilbur too! If you know who Mr. Ed is, you're old!

Our June board meeting was postponed and rescheduled for this Thursday at 11:45am at The Pier Restaurant. All members are welcomed to attend board meeting with a $10 charge if you decide to enjoy lunch as well. It's nice when the board members actually show up too!

President Haugh took the opportunity to thank Steve Green and Perry Terwelp for their hard work with Gus Macker this year.

Jared also informed the Club of Liz O'Donnell's appreciation for the amount of Club members who were at Kevin's visitation last week. She was moved by the Club's presence at the Funeral Home.

Jared also announced that former Sheriff Brent Fisher has resigned from the Club after accepting a new position. With that said, a final reading was held for new member applicant Sheriff Brian Vonderhaar. Time to bring the Sheriff in (not in cuffs either).

The Quincy Exchange Club has received an award for something but Jared wasn't sure what. All I can tell you is we received a star patch for our banner that Cory Watson was "totally" aware of.

Don't forget to come out with your family and enjoy our annual Flag Day cookout at Madison Park Shelter House this Wednesday (tomorrow) at 5 pm. We will enjoy Butcher Block food off the grill and shaved ice from Gengenbacher Shaved Ice. Then around 6 pm we will make our way over to the Park Band area and pass out American Flags to all of the people assembled for the patriotic concert.

Mike Llewellyn took the opportunity to inform the members of a fundraising golf event to benefit the QHS Volleyball program. If interested in playing or being a sponsor, call Mike Francis at 242-3759.

Line of the Week

The line belongs to Skip Rueter. After being asked how many spectators were at the golf event, our speaker Greg Feldberg said somewhere between 700 to a thousand. At which point he was interrupted by Skip who shouted out

 - "it was 937."

Exchange Minute

In honor of Flag Day and our annual Flag Day Program, here is the full version of the Start-Spangled Banner (in case you thought there was just one verse!)

The Star-Spangled Banner

O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
'Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - "In God is our trust,"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
