This Friday
Golden Deeds
Every year the Quincy Exchange Club presents the Golden Deeds Award to a dedicated volunteer who gives endless hours of their time and talents toward making our community a better place to live. Last year's winner was Phil Conover. This Friday Coach Jack Mackenzie will receive the 64th Annual Book of Golden Deeds. It's one of the Exchange Club's best programs so don't miss it. You might try to get there early.

Dr. Lenny Biallas presented the Exchange Club's annual tradition....The Kentucky Derby. Three different races were shown with Club members getting a chance to bet and root their favorite horses on to victories. Lenny explained that the horses in the Kentucky Derby are all 3 year olds and they race about 7 times a year. The unique part of the Kentucky Derby is that for the horses this will be the first time they race against opponents from all over the country. They mostly race in their own particular areas. For jockeys, they typically get 10% of the winnings from the races they are on board their winning horse. There are about 5000 jockeys in the U.S. and about 100 jockeys get 1/3 of all the distributed money. Thanks Dr. Biallas for presenting a fun and informative program and for not mentioning anything about "glue" during the meeting. A special thanks goes out to Eric Thomas for putting the races together for their showing at the meeting. A thank you also goes out to Eric Frese, Rich Zeidler and Curt Moore for handling the ticket sales and the money payouts all without the use of $2 bills.

So Proudly We Hail

The So Proudly We Hail program is coming up on Friday, June 17. Once again, we will honor 6 Quincy residences/businesses with a plaque recognizing there proper flying of our nation's flag.

If you know of neighbors or businesses who properly fly the flag on a daily basis, please contact Dennis Koch so that we can get the invitations sent to the folks for the June 17th program.

If they are available, we will also honor area Military Academy graduates with a flag that has flown over the capitol as well.

This and That

President Jared Haugh, wearing a coat made out of Mr. Ed, provided a very stern opening prayer. Thanks Wilburrr!

That was followed by Cory Watson's Wall Street sounding "I" to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Tail-Twister was in the barn comforting the horses prior to the three races so there was no collection last Friday.

The $200 50/50 pot was untapped as Steve Green had the opportunity to select an Ace of Spades from the almost full deck. He drew a 6 of Diamonds instead.

The Steve Green Macker update informed the Club that we have 117 teams signed up so far and the next ten or so days will see a major push on registrations if all goes as planned. He can still use a few more scorekeepers as well.

Vic Welper mentioned we have 21 court sponsors sold and six more confirmed. Your help in selling the $300 court sponsorships is still needed. We need to sell about 7 more to reach the goal.

Speaking of Macker, we will hold our May 27th meeting in Mackerville at Washington Park.

The Big Dog presented The News to the delight of a couple members. Those two members can be assured they will not be in the next edition of The News. It pays to laugh even if it's not funny!

The 90th Convention of the Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs will be held in St. Charles, Illinois June 9 thru June 12.This is your last chance to sign up to go to the event which will be held at Pheasant Run Resort. If interested in going, contact Joel Koch.

Time to step up up!

Macker 2012
Gus Macker is right around the corner and that means we'll need lots of manpower in the coming weeks.

Between now and the Memorial Day Weekend, we need to sell at least 12 more court sponsorships. Those go for $300 each and the price hasn't gone up since the beginning of this project 26 years ago. If you haven't done so already, check with your employer about making a sponsorship (If you are the employer, well, what are you waiting for?)

Once we get closer to the weekend, we'll need help taping the courts. Eric Barnes will need help from members on Sunday, May 22 (weather permitting) to get the courts laid out. It's not tough work and many hands make the job go quickly.

On Friday and Saturday of the event, Dennis Koch will need help in the Registration Tent. Registration goes from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. There is always a crush of teams waiting to register on Saturday morning before their first game so we could really use some additional help Saturday morning.

Finally, Scorekeepers are needed on Saturday and Sunday. Steve Green is making the rounds to get those lined up.

This is our largest fund-raising event of the year and pays for all of the scholarships and donations we make throughout the year - we need each member to step up and contribute to the effort to make the Macker the best one yet!
