This Friday

The Blue Devils next home game is on May 13th against Chatham Glenwood and the Raiders next home contest is set for tomorrow against Illini West. We will also be featuring the announcement of this year's Bud Willer $1,000 Scholarship Award winner. It should be a great meeting to invite a prospective member.

Five outstanding Character Champion winners were introduced and awards were presented to each winner. The winners were: Maddie Ramsey of Southeastern High School. Superintendent Todd Fox called Maddie coachable and classy in his introduction of her to the Club. Maddie's parents are Rick and Cindy Ramsey. From Central Jr. High School the winner was Alexia Johnson who was introduced by her softball coach Amy Hildebrand. Alexia is the daughter of Andy and Jessica Johnson and is a four sport athlete. Central High School Principal Jeff Wagner then introduced the next winner in Brianna Hildebrand, Amy Hildebrand's daughter. Brianna was described as a person who exudes sportsmanship and character athletically and socially. Our fourth winner was Shelby Connell of Quincy Notre Dame High School. Shelby is the daughter of Bill and Jamie Connell. She was introduced by her coach Eric Orne who described her as a hard worker and always puts her team first. The final recipient was Kayden Miller of Unity High School. Principal Bill Dorothy provided the introduction of Kayden who plays basketball, volleyball and runs track. Athletic Director Frank Cash and Kayden's parents, Cory & Candy Miller, were also in attendance. Thanks to Chuck Venvertloh for his handling of the awards program.

This outstanding program, of recognizing those student athletes who excel in the classroom, on the field and in life showing compassion and sportsmanship in all they do, is now in his 13th year.

Thanks to Jim Benz (who addressed the Club) who came up with the idea and to Kirk Frageman and Jim Totsch for being on the initial committee 13 years ago. With some 500 students involved the first year, the program took off with their guidance. All three are now involved in other capacities and the program is currently in the hands of committee members Chuck Venvertloh, Mike Elbe, Joel Koch, Perry Terwelp and Bill Stalder.

This and That

The proceedings began with a prayer from President Jared Haugh. That was followed by the almost forgotten (by our President) Pledge of Allegiance which was initiated with a very public school sounding "I" from Mike Llewellyn.

Rick Gengenbacher handled the Tail-Twisting duties with assistance from Mike Llewellyn who described his being "abused" by kids while wearing the Gus Macker outfit last year. Any volunteers to do it this year?

Well the odds were in his favor as Rick Veihl seems to win the opportunity every other week and win he did. With the pot at $534, Rick drew the Ace of Spades to claim the money. Rick did so with 29 cards still in the deck too! Congratulations Rick. Come join me at the boat you lucky *&^$#^*)*^%. Maybe some of this will rub off. Thanks to Brian Koch for conducting the card draw.

Steve Green presented the Macker update and revealed we now have 31 teams signed up. Steve said at 31 teams we are still on track with past years and are anticipating some 400 teams again. He also mentioned we have three more court sponsors sold. Your help in selling the $300 court sponsorships is needed.

President Haugh put the edict out to each Club member be a part of Macker. He also mentioned Steve Green will be putting out court scorekeeper signup sheets soon.

Jared also reminded the Club we need some 15 members to help walk the American Flag in the Dogwood Parade which his this Saturday. We are #2 in the parade so we should be done in less than an hour and will meet at 9:15 at Madison Park.

Jared also informed the Club that thanks to Eric Barnes, the Club got some great exposure at the recent QPS School Board meeting when it was announced that Madison Kim was our Youth of the Year Award winner during the meeting.

Again a reminder, the 90th Convention of the Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs will be held in St. Charles, Illinois June 9 thru June 12. The event will be held at Pheasant Run Resort. If interested in going, hotel reservations need to be made by May 10th. For more information, contact Joel Koch..
