Randy Frese
Illinois State Representative and Quincy Exchange Club member Randy Frese was our speaker this Friday. Rep. Frese heads the 94th District comprised of Adams, Hancock, Henderson and parts of Warren County. He serves 108-thousand people in his district. Randy discussed some of the budget woes the State of Illinois is going through and took numerous questions from the Club.  He is a member of the Veteran's Committee, the Business Growth & Incentive Committee, The Appropriations-Human Services Committee, Consumer Protection Committee and the Public/Private Partnership Committee. Special thanks to Jared Haugh for his introduction of Representative Frese as a 2008 graduate of Trump University.

Student of the Month
Emily Kite, QND

We also had the opportunity to meet this month's Youth of the Month recipient in Emily Kite of Quincy Notre Dame High School. Emily is the daughter of Kent and Karen Kite and is headed to Quincy University after graduating this Spring.  Emily is headed toward a degree in Nursing. According to QND Principal Mark McDowell, Emily is a true scholar-athlete, a humanitarian and a caring and sincere individual. She is a member of the Society of Academic Achievement and National Honor Society. Students at QND are required to perform 40 service hours over their four year stay at QND.  Emily has amassed a total of 250 hours in 3 and ½ years. She is involved in retreats, Give a Kid a Smile campaign and is active in the Catholic Heart Work Camps during the summer.  Congratulations to Emily Kite.  Thanks to Bruce Broemmel for handling the introduction of Principal McDowell.

This 'n That

Jared Haugh began the proceedings with a prayer and Randy Frese handled the start of the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Tail-Twister duties were handled by Rick Gengenbacher who shared a few "Dillmanisms" on "that's how the fight started". Good stuff Rick.

The 50-50 Card Draw, worth $395 was conducted thanks to Brian Koch's hard work. Jim Douglas got the opportunity to select a card and select he did. Unfortunately for him, he drew a 2 of Diamonds so the deck shrinks more and the pot escalates for this Friday.

Thanks to Jared Haugh for orchestrating our annual March Madness Night which will be held at Tony's Too tomorrow (Wednesday night, March 16) at 6:30. The cost for hors d'oeuvres and fun is just $20 per person. If you have not let Jared know that you will be there please do so ahead of just showing up. He needs a head count for the food ordered. Contact Jared today if you would like to go at 577-4026.

A special board meeting was held after the meeting and the board decided to donate $100 to the Celebrity Pour fundraiser to help Cancer Crush and Horizons Social Services. Steve Labs made the request.

Jared has announced that there will NOT be a board meeting on Thursday (March 17) of this week. With green beer flowing at 5:05am that day, there is no way he will be able to be there at noon. Top-o-The Mornin' to ya Jared!
There will not be a meeting on Friday, March 25 in observance of Good Friday. By then, we should have an idea of where we are meeting on a more permanent basis.

Exchange Minute

In observance of the club's 70th anniversary on the 21st, here is the club history as recalled by Charter President Robert Hunter...

During December, 1945, the National Exchange Club sent to Quincy an Extension Representative, Wilbur Morse, in order to re-activate a Quincy Club. During the last weeks of December, 1945 and the first week of 1946, there was extensive activity in securing members. The first meeting of the Quincy Club was held at the Lincoln-Douglas Hotel on January 4, 1946. Officers of the Club were elected on January 4, 1946 for the term ending June 30, 1946, and were as follows: President - Robert S. Hunter, Secretary - Hugh T. Kircher, and Treasurer - Andrew C. Schnack. Daniel W. Bueter was subsequently elected Vice-President to hold office until June 30, 1946. On January 8, 1946, a temporary certificate of authority was issued to the Exchange Club of Quincy.

The first Board of Control was elected on January 26, 1946 and was constituted as follows: To July 1, 1946 - Frank Bennett, Herman Schneidman and Morris Tunnicliff; and to December 31, 1946 - Daniel W. Bueter, Kenneth Dame and Carlylw Little.

The Board of Control began immediately to function. It has met regularly on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at eight o'clock a.m. at the Lincoln-Douglas Hotel.

The Constitution and Bylaws of the Club have been enacted and are now in full force. The initiation fee is set at $15.00 and the dues are $2.00 per year. Only one person shall be admitted to membership for each classification.

The Charter Banquet was held at the Lincoln-Douglas Hotel on March 21, 1946, with a very large attendance, including the charter members and their ladies and a large number of neighboring Exchangites, particularly from Jacksonville. The Charter Presentation was made by the Illinois State President, James W. Kelly (East Alton Exchange Club).
