This Friday
thanksgiving-dinner.jpg Happy Thanksgiving...We will NOT meet this week as we observe Thanksgiving with family and friends. It is a time that we reflect on our blessings and reminisce about our first Thanksgiving. You know, the one where Rich Howell accepted maze from the Indians in exchange for some Turkey Franks. I think that's how it all went down if I recall from my history book! Enjoy the holiday and get ready for what I call "Black and Blue" Friday. We will return Friday, December 4th for the Hearing Impaired Kids Christmas meeting.
Friday Last

It was a Round-Ball review for QHS and QND. We had the pleasure of hearing from Kevin Meyer, who is making the transition from the Girl's team to the Boy's team this year at QND and Andy Douglas, who is entering season number two as the head coach of QHS.

Quincy Notre Dame will open up the season this weekend with two home games. The Raiders will open up Friday against Chicago Leo and then host La Salette Notre Dame Academy on Saturday at "The Pit". Expect the Raiders to have an up-tempo style with their top 9 scorers returning from last year.

This season the Blue Devils bring back loads of experience at all positions. Coach Douglas is happy with the team's leadership, and work ethic. The Blue Devils are welcoming back Urbana High School from last year's Thanksgiving Tournament and will welcome Chicago Carter and Chicago Marshall to this year's 45th Annual Thanksgiving Tournament which begins Thursday.

The two schools will meet each other on December 19th at Quincy Notre Dame High School. Thanks to WGEM's Ben Marth for his introductions of the coaches.

In Memoriam
Mel Dillman

Our Club lost long-standing member Mel Dillman who passed away on November 18th after suffering from a series of complications after surgery. Mel was a former Club President, a recipient of the prestigious Exchangite of the Year Award and was also a recipient of the John Tripp Distinguished Service Award. He served his club remarkably having chaired numerous activities over his 29 year membership including Gus Macker. He is survived by his wife, Linda, two daughters Kelly and Kris and four grandchildren Delaney, Brennan, Andrew and David. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He will be missed by all and his wit will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers to out to Mel's family and close friends (which is just about everybody). The Club had a vacant place setting for him featuring his picture and his favorite beverage last Friday. It was announced that the December 11th meeting will be entirely about remembering Mel and we will all be sharing our best Mel Dillman story that day.

This 'n That

Jared Haugh began the meeting with a prayer for Mel and his family. It was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mel's best friend Curt Moore. From that point on, all hell broke loose with one liners and comments flying the entire meeting. As funny as the meeting went, imagine how crazy it would have gotten if Mel were with us.

We inducted two new members to the Club. Todd Moore and Taylor Rakers are our newest members. They were sponsored by Eric Barnes and Kent Anderson, respectively. Thanks to Gary Peters for the Induction ceremony work.

Perry Terwelp addressed the Club about the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament on December 6th. All scorekeepers and referees have been secured for the event. There will be 14 to 16 teams with some 140 to 160 special Olympians performing. Special thanks to all planning to help and to Pepsi for donating t-shirts for all of the players and workers.

Charlie Ledbetter reminded everyone about the Give a Kid a Chance Christmas Dinner on December 4 at 6:30. The event will be in the downstairs area of the Senior Center and he could use a few volunteers to assist him. This year they will be serving some 200 to 225 people which is twice as large as previous years. This is due to adding the Chaddock Kids to the event. Santa will be busy.

Brian Koch handled the 50-50 Card Draw. Mike Disseler got the opportunity to win the pot but drew a 2 of Hearts (What NO Rick Veihl?). So the pot grows for next week.

Steve Peters Fleeced the flock as the Tail-Twister telling a joke along the way.

Jeff Dorsey presented The News and endured the audience request to quit after one good story. Thank goodness he didn't or none of the members would have known how their Thanksgiving would be different if the Indians would have given the pilgrims a Donkey instead of Turkey. You had to be there.

Our Spouses Christmas Party will be held at Drakes Restaurant in Quincy on Saturday, December 5th at 6:30. Please plan on attending this no cost event with your wife or girlfriend but not both. Please email Dennis at exchange@adams.net or call him at 217-224-8484 and let him know if you are coming to the party. We need to give the hotel a firm number by November 30.

Lines of the Week

Way too many to use............

Art Awerkamp, after Curt Moore said "If you remember my presidency a couple of years ago", said

 - "We're still trying to forget it".

After President Haugh asked if there were any guests, Skip Rueter fired off

 - "You mean those that haven't left yet?"

President Haugh, after hearing Dick Wentura try to defend himself from some comments about him being a little grouchy, uttered

 - "Dick, don't bring piss to a shit fight!"

Exchange Minute

2015 Field of Honor

Art Awerkamp and the Field of Honor Committee wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the club who took the time to help make the 2015 Field of Honor a success.

Many members came out to help set up the Field on Tuesday - enough that we were able to completely set the 1,000 flags and rebar in place in under two hours. To top that, with the help of a number of students from QND, we were able to disassemble the field and roll and store all 1,000 flags in about 45 minutes on Friday. That was just a tremendous show of what our club can do when they put their mind (and bodies) to it. So again, thank you very much.

For the most part, everything went smoothly this year. The storm on Veterans Day was a downer and forced the cancellation of the Veterans Matter Rally, but we still managed to raise some money for that cause. We'll have a full report on that on December 4.

The bad news was our tent didn't survive the storm. It made it just fine through the heavy rain and wind that occurred around 6 p.m., but about 9:30 one of the gusts caught it just right, flipping it backwards and snapping the two back legs of the tent. We're in contact with the tent company to see if the legs can be replaced or if we'll need a new frame, but the preliminary diagnosis is a new frame at $275. The good news is that all of the canvas is just fine - no damage to the top or walls.

The wind and rain did seem to hold down the number of visitors that actually walked through the display, but there were hundreds of cars that stopped on Locust Street to take photos and a company called JWR Marketing came out and did a drone video.

Again, thank you to everyone to helped set-up, take down or sat in the cold to keep an eye on the Field of Honor. We'll do it again next year.
Also, a huge thank-you to WGEM, KHQA and the Herald Whig who provided fantastic coverage of the Field this year - it is so appreciated! Finally, we hope everyone saw the thank-you ad in paper for our sponsors. Without them, none of this would be possible!
