2014-15 Lincolnland District Best Bulletin Award Recipient

This Friday
Our speaker will be Lt. Col. Susan P. Asher. Colonel Asher will be speaking about the satellite program she was involved with in the Air Force. It was just declassified in 2011 so the previously secret information has now been Ok'd by the Pentagon for Exchange Club ears. This should be a great meeting to invite a prospective member to join us.
Friday Last

Joel Box, former JWCC and Q.U. basketball standout was our speaker. Box, a Rockford, Illinois native, played professionally for 8 years in the Middle East. His career overseas has led to some interesting times including a 12 day period of time where he was not allowed to leave the country while in Iraq. Joel discussed his various stops in his playing career which all started when Exchangite and then Coach Mike Elbe offered him a scholarship to play at John Wood Community College. He also had collegiate playing time at New Mexico and Quincy University as well. Joel is currently the Freshman Coach at Quincy high School and holds basketball camps for youngsters in the summer. Thanks to the birthday boy, Jim Benz, for his introduction of our speaker.

This 'n That

Joel Koch handled the opening prayers with a reference to our meatball lunch thrown in.

Eric Thomas delivered the "I" to begin the Pledge of Allegiance in a manner equal to an emailed "I".

The Tail-Twister duties were handled flawlessly by Steve Peters who presented a pregnant blond joke along the way.

The Card Draw was held by Cory Watson. Rich Veihl (who else) had the correct ticket but drew two cards (by mistake). The 6 of Spades and the Ace of Diamonds were drawn by Rick simultaneously. A card draw panel of one (Cory) determined since they were both the wrong card that the 6 of spades would go back into the deck. Our table thought Rick should keep that second card as his next draw.

The meeting was held by Past President Chuck Venvertloh in the absence of the President Haugh and Vice-President Koch. Chuck, as prepared as he ever was, kept talking about "STUFF" since he had nothing to refer to (Ex. "We have some STUFF coming up next few weeks".

Chuck did read a thank you letter from the Veteran's Parade Committee for our donation to them for their Parade on November 7th.

It was good to see Fred Lauder back with us on Friday. Our speaker's girlfriend, Emily, and Todd Moore were also guests at last Friday's gathering.

Thanks to Elvin Townsend for the polishing of the Exchange Club Bell. Elvin has done this deed for years for the Club.

Thanks goes out to Dennis Koch and Rick Gengenbacher for their assistance with preparing the bulletin the last two weeks in my absence.

On a very sad note, Art Awerkamp made the Club aware of the passing of one of the Hearing Impaired youngsters. Zane "Gunner" Epperson passed away after a long illness.

Unfortunately, Mel Dillman is back in the hospital with an illness. He is in Blessing Hospital and visitors are welcomed.

NEC Foundation Disaster Relief
Over the years, the NEC Foundation has been used to funnel contributions to areas that are hard hit by natural disaster. From Hurricane Katrina to the tornados in Joplin, Exchangites from all over the country have wanted to help their fellow members in need.
As of this writing, there has not been a call for help for our friends in the Carolinas, but judging by the pictures and videos coming out of those areas, I'm sure there will be some need for help. If you are interested in helping out, feel free to make a contribution to the National Exchange Club Foundation and mail it to 3050 Central Ave, Toledo OH 43606 and designate the contribution for disaster relief for Hurricane Joaquin. We have a large number of clubs and Child Abuse Prevention Centers in those areas, I am sure that they could use the assistance.
