This Friday
QND Football
This Friday we will feature high school football and both football coaches will be with us. Rick Little will update us on the pre-season progress of the Quincy Senior High Blue Devils and Bill Connell will do likewise on the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders. Blue Devils KHQA's Chris Duerr will be our M.C. Bring a prospective member and hear the latest about the high school gridiron scene!

Spring Lake Country Club was the setting for our Annual Exchange Club Golf outing. The golfers teed off after an abbreviated meeting and lunch at the Spring Lake dining room. The Exchange Club at a country club is like being in "Caddie Shack". Plus we already have several Bill Murray types and similar Rodney Dangerfield characters in our club. We used to have a Judge in the Club, but no more. The Murray and Dangerfield types drove him out just like in the movie.

8/22 - Rob Copley turns 55 and Dan Brink turns 53
8/23 - Mike & Julie McLaughlin celebrate their 25th anniversary

9/8-9 - Character Champions

Apologies to Kent and & Ann Anderson (not sure where Kim fits in!) Kent and Ann celebrated their 36th anniversary today (August 18).

This 'n That

President Jared Haugh began the proceedings with our prayer and the Club collectively bellowed out "I" to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Haugh asked for some volunteers to assist with the Character Champions event in September. We need several to help stuff bags on September 3rd and then to serve lunch during the event on September 8th and 9th.

Don't forget to talk up our Flags of Honor program. The next event for that is Labor Day on September 7th.

There was no Tail-Twister done at the meeting Friday.

We are still looking for members to step up and help with our Avenue of Lights project. President Jared announced that he will be assigning everyone to a committee to make this easier on all. There actually is very little work involved if we all chip in. Each week a group meets for one hour on Tuesday and Thursday nights to replace some of the bulbs on displays. They meet Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 under the direction of Rick Veihl and Thursdays under the direction of Jared Haugh at Bob Scott's workshop located behind Scotties Fun Spot and just east of the Quincy Raceways track.

The Card Draw was put on hold for one week with the pot at $200 and 51 cards in the deck.

As part of the Golf meeting, the members all got the chance to win $50 if they could sink a putt from 60 feet from the hole on the Putting Green at Spring Lake Country Club. The winner was Steve Green who barely beat out Jeff Dorsey. Both had to endure a massive divot left from Dick Wentura's putting attempt. Dick, the object is to use the putter to strike the ball not the green. Dick left SLCC to begin his new job as CEO of Wentura Excavating Company. We may never get invited back to Spring Lake.

There is good news to report on Mel Dillman. Mel has left Memorial Hospital in Springfield to return home. He will still be rehabbing in Quincy as he recovers from knee surgery.

Here is to a speedy recovery for Ann Stupasky, wife of Kelly, who is recovering from pneumonia in Blessing Hospital. Hopefully, by the time you read this she will be home.

We had one guest and that was Joe Long who was a guest of Perry Terwelp.

Belonged to Curt Moore who, after seeing Jared Haugh struggle with the agenda on his smart phone, said

 - "You are making me look good today".
Exchange Education

President Jared Haugh has a full plate (and no, we're not talking about all that extra food that JJ's prepared for us at Stoney Creek last week).
Last Friday, he took the opportunity to talk about some of our major projects and fundraisers - Avenue of Lights, Flags of Honor/Field of Honor, Character Champions and, for the 26th consecutive year, Gus Macker.
Steve Green and Perry Terwelp have agreed to chair Macker one more time and the Character Champions Committee putting together yet another fantastic 2 days of speakers to motivate our area youth to not only excel in the field of competition, but more importantly, excel as good winners and losers when the game is over.
You've been hearing a lot about Avenue of Lights - if you have a preference for a committee, let Jared know, otherwise you will be "drafted" for one of the other committees.
There will be another Field of Honor this fall at the Illinois Veterans Home. Art Awerkamp and his committee will be meeting again soon to line that up and start the process of bringing in sponsors. The committee also plans to bring the Veterans Matter program to the Board this week as a side program on Veterans Day for Exchange's newest partnership program. Check out more on the Veterans Matter program at their website.
As always, there will be other projects and fundraising opportunities to get involved in. Adopt-a-Grandparent starts up soon, the Give-a-Kid-a-Chance dinner will be here before we know it, Youth of the Month will get started with the new school year and many more.
Get involved, and bring someone in to help out!
