This Friday we will meet at Spring Lake Country Club for our annual golf outing. If you haven't signed up and would like to play, contact Jared Haugh as soon as possible. If you are not a golfer we will still hold our meeting and lunch the SLCC with golfing after that.
Friday Last

Bill LaTour was our speaker and the topic was one that we all need to be aware off..."Identity Theft". Bill is the Campus Police Chief and Dean of Operations for John Wood Community College.

Approximately 15 million United States residents have their identities used fraudulently each year with financial losses totaling upwards of $50 billion. On a case-by-case basis, that means approximately 7% of all adults have their identities misused with each instance resulting in approximately $3,500 in losses. Close to 100 million additional Americans have their personal identifying information placed at risk of identity theft each year when records maintained in government and corporate databases are lost or stolen.

Bill presented steps you can take to help protect yourself from identity theft. They included removing your Social Security Card from your wallet, carrying only the credit cards you need with you, mailing your mail at the post office or place in a mail box and not your personal "flagged" mailbox, and shred your paperwork before discarding it. Bill also shared that we lockup important personal documents you may have a work, be cautious of allowing repairmen in your home while you are at work and get an annual credit report to make sure your credit info is accurate.

He also discussed what to do if you have become a victim and how to recover from it. A great site to go to for more information is www.ftc.gov/idtheft. Thanks to Mike Elbe for his introduction of our speaker.

This 'n That

John Spring had the opportunity to present the prayer to begin the meeting last Friday and he did his usual remarkable job.

Jeff Dorsey made sure his friends in New York heard his enunciation of the work "I" to begin the pledge.

Vice-President Brian Koch ran the meeting filling in for President Jared Haugh.

Jeff Dorsey, in his green shirt, took his turn as the Tail-Twister and gave all members with green shirts a reprieve from paying. It was amazing how many members tried to claim they were wearing green Friday.

We are still looking for members to help out in advance of Avenue of Lights on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
We are just looking for about an hour of your time to replace some of the bulbs on displays. We meet Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 under the direction of Rick Veihl and Thursdays under the direction of Jared Haugh at Bob Scott's workshop located behind Scotties Fun Spot and just east of the Quincy Raceways track.

It was good to see Sheriff Brent Fischer with us Friday at the meeting which saw one guest. That guest was Dennis Lavery, the brother of Mike and Rich Lavery. Dennis was visiting from the Belleville, Illinois area.

With 52 cards plus two jokers in the deck, nobody gave a crap, but a card draw was held. Let's see, the odds were one in 5 for $2,150 last week and Friday's odds were one in 54 for $200. Let's just say the enthusiasm was not at a pitch. Despite that, Rick Veihl spent $6 to get two different colored tickets (he's got a color fetish) and once again he had the winning ticket. He drew an 8 of Clubs and only collected $5 back. So he's already a buck in the hole for this new pot. Let the ground swell of attendance begin!

The line belongs to ...... Gary Peters who after hearing our speaker, a former QPD officer say he recognized several of our members, got up and spread-eagled up against the wall and yelled

 - "Remember me now?".
Exchange Education

During the One Nation Under God luncheon at the National Exchange Club Convention, the following video from actor Gary Sinise was played among his many screen credits, Gary played Lt. Dan in the movie Forrest Gump. Gary has been an outspoken leader for America's veterans and has been kind enough to do a couple of videos for the National Exchange Club. Take a look and enjoy!

You may have noticed the change in our membership from July 1 to August 1 dropped by 3 to 92. There is always a few that drop at the start of a new year so it's very important that we bring new members in. President Jared has set a goal for positive growth for the year, so we're already looking for 4 new members - and there will always be more. The only way we're going to grow is if you ask someone to join! Remember, somebody asked you - now it's your turn.
The National Exchange Club has started recording the annual report of the Executive Vice President and a message from the new National President. Tracey Edwards, our Executive Vice President, has her report posted on the National Website at www.nationalexchangeclub.org. National president Dan McQueeney's report can be viewed here:

See you Friday at Spring Lake!
