We begin the Haugh administration with a visit from officials at Teen Reach. This organization has helped teens in our area as a sanctuary for after school and during summer hours. We will find out more Friday.
Friday Last

It was a memorable meeting as Curt Moore passed the baton on to Jared Haugh. The Exchangite of the Year and the John Tripp Distinguished Service Awards were also presented.

Before giving up the Presidency, Curt Moore relayed some of the accomplishments during his administration. There were so few that I didn't see a need to list them. Seriously, there were several including the taking over of the Avenue of Lights, the implementation of the Field of Honor and Flags of Honor program and the hosting of this year's District Convention. Thanks Curt for a great job.

The Club also installed the new officers - Jared Haugh as President, Brian Koch as President-Elect, Cory Watson as Vice President, Curt Moore as Immediate Past President, Chris Parker as Treasurer and Cullan Duke as Secretary. We'll also welcome three new board members, Art Awerkamp and Kyle Awerkamp for three terms ending in 2018 and Eric Barnes to finish out Cory's term ending in 2017. They will join continuing board members David Adams, Alan Musholt and Josh Klitz to round out the Board of Directors. The "Animal House" swearing in ceremony has become legendary and was "classic" again.

This year's Exchangite of the Year Award was presented to Art Awerkamp. Art was the driving force behind the Field of Honor and Flags of Honor program. He led the Club with the startup of this program and the community has had nothing but rave reviews for Art and the Club's efforts. The award was presented to Art by Jeff Dorsey, last year's recipient.

The John Tripp Distinguished Service Award was presented to Steve Green by last year's recipient, Mike Lavery. Steve has led the Gus Macker project for the past several years and has not only been involved with Macker but has also helped out with all of the other projects the Club is working on. He is always there to help and his organizational skills have helped the Club raise thousands of dollars over the years making him an obvious choice to be our winner.

This 'n That

Jared Haugh provided the divine guidance the Club needed with the opening prayer.

Bruce Broemmel began the Pledge of Allegiance with a thunderous "I" that sounded like it came from a 6-7 285 pound lineman.

The 50-50 card draw was held with Dennis and Brian Koch handling things. The pot was over $1,775 and 9 cards plus a joker were in the deck. Rich Howell had the correct ticket and thinned the deck by two as he drew a Joker, which got him $5 spending money, and a 9 of Hearts. So the deck of cards is now comprised of 8 cards, with one of them being the Ace of Spades. Guess we will see Brian Musholt Friday!

Out-going President Curt Moore took the time to thank The Koch family for their efforts in making this year's District Convention a big success. The club took home one first place award and three honorable mention awards. Jeff Dorsey received a plaque for the "Best Bulletin Award". He also received Honorable Mention for the 2014-2015 Lincolnland District Exchangite of the Year Award. Mike Lavery also received Honorable Mention for the 2014-2015 Lincolnland District Distinguished Service Award. QND also received Honorable Mention for the Contributing Service Award.

We were honored to have several former Exchangites with us last Friday including Tom Tushaus, Frank Musholt, Larry Ehmen, Bob Nall and Rick Haugh.

About 85% of the Awerkamp family tree including his Mom, Betty, was in attendance to see Art receive his award. They all went home hungry too (Inside joke). It was good to see all of them.

Prospective member, Paul Kochielski Jr., a guest of Jared Haugh was also with us.

Please remember that Mel Dillman is still in a St. Louis rehab center following knee surgery. Hopefully, Mel will be back with us in a few weeks. He could use some conversation to pass the time. If you would like to call Mel and wish him well, call 779-9849. Mel wanted desperately to be at Friday's meeting but couldn't so Paula Hemming was kind enough to record the meeting so we can have him watch it. Thanks Paula.

The National Exchange Club's Mega Raffle is in its final few weeks, but there is still time to get your ticket at www.exchangeraffle.com. $100 for a chance at up to $100,000! (If fewer than 2,200 tickets are sold, it will be a 50/50 raffle), While we're on National, check out the Bravelets - There are a number of bracelets that you could get for your significant other (or for yourself). They're $35 each and $10 of every sale goes to the NEC Foundation for Americanism and Child Abuse Prevention projects. The Big Dog won one as a door prize at the District Convention!

Line of the Week

Goes to our new President's father, Rick Haugh. Just as Jared was to assume the Presidency, Rick stepped up, proceeded to the podium and asked the Club to "reconsider their choice".

Exchange Education

President Jared began his year at the helm of Quincy's finest hour gang with some of his goals for the year. Among them were making the Avenue of Lights a success for the club (It's already a great success in the community) and increasing our membership. Work on Avenue of Lights has already begun, with club members working on Tuesday and Thursday evenings repairing some of the fixtures and getting others ready to go. It's not hard work - if you have one of those evening free, why not check in with Jared or Rick Veihl and see how you can help! Soon, Jared will be putting other committees into action to call on businesses to renew their sponsorships and work on other aspects of the project. This project has great potential for the club and we need to step up to keep this as one of the assets of the community!
Membership is an area that always need attention. Over the last 8-9 years, our roster has shrunk by about 25 members, falling below 100 this past year. We do a pretty good job of keeping our members involved, but there is always going to be turnover - lives change, jobs take folks away and ultimately some of our members pass. The only way to keep the numbers up is by recruiting new members into the club. It takes about one new member each month just to maintain the status quo! Why join the Exchange Club of Quincy? Well, if you haven't noticed, we have a pretty good time while doing some great work in making Quincy a better place to live, work and play.
Remember, someone asked you to join the club - now it's time to pay it forward and get somebody else involved! If you know of someone that would make a great Exchangite but just aren't comfortable making the "ask", pass the name on to Jared - he'll find someone who knows the prospect or make the call himself.
Jared also made the request that every club member subscribe to the Flags of Honor program (if you haven't already). Subscribing is easy - simply go to our website and click on the Field of Honor page to register online or pick up a form at any club meeting - the forms are by the name badges (you know, those round things you're supposed to be wearing!). The subscription is $30 per year and rolls forward from year to year - if you subscribe now, you'll have a flag in your yard on Labor Day this year, then Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day next year. Get your neighbors involved! In the neighborhoods where we've been active, it's neat to see the street lined with flags!
