Club Meets at Noon each Friday at Stoney Creek Inn, 3809 Broadway in Quincy
2012-2013 Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs Best Bulletin Award Winner
This Friday

We will be in the midst of the 89th Annual Lincolnland District Convention when we meet this Friday. District Conventioneers will join us for our meeting which will feature The News with the Big Dog (Jeff Dorsey) and our special guest Bobbi White who will entertain us with her humor. See the article below in Exchange Education for more details on the convention and golf!

Friday Last

It is an undertaking that only this Club can pull off, The Avenue of Lights. That was the topic last Friday as John Groves and Bob Scott gave us the "ins and outs" (or is that the "ons and offs") of what is involved with the setup and operation of this major event in Quincy. The financial rewards will benefit the entire community through our Club's donations to the many causes in the area. The busy advance work will begin September 1st up until opening night on Thanksgiving night. Prior to that, some minor repair work will be needed as well. There will be several committees established to make this project go smoothly and with minimal work. Once those committees are determined, please become a part of one and assist where you can. This year is very much a transition year and will be a learning process for the Club as Bob and John will still be there to teach us what we need to know to take over the project eventually. There will be plenty of little projects that will need to be done in advance and if we all take on just one of those projects we can handle the transition with ease and quickly.

This & That

John Spring handled the opening prayer with thoughts going to the Haugh Family for the passing of Jared's 100 year old Grandmother (and former Exchangite's Pat and Rick Haugh's Mother) and to the Dillman family for speedy recoveries for Mel and his daughter, Kelly, from recent surgeries.

Dick Wentura bellowed out a very pronounced "I" to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.

Jared Haugh, filling in for President Curt Moore, read two thank you notes. One from John Wood Community College for our donation to their JWCC Academy and the other was from our Bud Willer winner, Andrew Gengenbacher.

Steve Green filled us in on some of the Gus Macker numbers. After an expenditure of over $2,500 for all of the Club member jackets, the Club still made $18,216 on Macker this year. Without the jacket purchase, we would have made more than the previous year and that was with less teams. Congratulations to Steve and his team for a great job. Steve did thank his co-chair Perry Terwelp, Alan Musholt for handling the finances for this year's Macker and Mike Llewellyn (in costume) for being "Mr. Macker".

There was no tail-twisting done last week.

Again, I remind you to please check the Club's directory on our website www.quincyexchangeclub.org to update any information that is incorrect. If you are new to the Club and your picture and bio are not in the directory definitely get with Joel Koch.

A big thank you goes out to Jared Haugh, who is chairing the golf outing this Thursday during the District Convention at Spring Lake Country Club. Golf includes a dinner afterwards. The cost is just $75. I am not sure if it is too late to play, but if you want to, contact Jared and he may be able to get you in. You might have to carry his clubs though.

The District Convention is this Thursday thru Sunday and Dennis Koch is the overall Chairman for the entire event. Thanks in advance Dennis for your hard work to pull it off.

For those wondering, Mel Dillman is still recovering from surgery in St. Louis. Mel was dealing with an infection in his knee which caused him tremendous pain. Get well Mel.

The 50-50 Card Draw is now down to 9 cards plus a Joker and still NO winner. Eric Schultz has the lucky ticket and his luck ran out when he drew a 7 of Hearts. The pot of $1,640 last Friday will perhaps climb over $1,700 for the next drawing which will take place on July 10th. Thanks to Joel and Dennis Koch for handling the card draw.

We had one guest and he is a prospective member as Chad Argabright introduced Jeremy Crossen to the Club. Jeremy works with Chad at Argabright Electric and is interested in helping the Club with the Avenue of Lights. Perfect timing!

District Convention is This Week!

Your bulletin comes to you a day early this week as we have some deadlines today!

If you plan to golf on Thursday and haven't already signed up, you need to let Jared know today! You can e-mail Jared at dukhaugh@adams.net.

If you plan to attend the convention or any of the meal events (other than our regular meeting on Friday), you need to let Dennis know today! You can e-mail Dennis at Exchange@adams.net.

All members are welcome to come to the Friday meeting - It will look pretty much the same as a normal meeting. We'll dispense with our usual business part of the meeting (the card draw will return on July 10), but there will be a special edition of the "News" by our own Jeff Dorsey, followed by our speaker, Bobbe White. We'll be joined by about 60 Exchangites from around the state, so please plan on coming and meeting some new friends or renew acquaintances with some old friends.

JJ's is doing the catering all weekend for the convention, so you know the food will be good! The hospitality room will be open each evening, so stop by and mingle - you might eve want to sit in on a game of pass the trash!

One more time on the schedule - Thursday, Golf at 1, dinner at 6ish.

Friday, Lunch at noon, Business session (free) at 2, Dinner, drinks & Music at Vila Katherine at 6. Saturday, Breakfast with U.S. Grant at 8, Business session (free) at 10:30; Banquet at 6. Sunday, Youth recognition breakfast at 8:30.

Again, Jared and Dennis need to get counts in today for meals and golf, so please let them know today!
