Barb Baker Chapin, the Director of Development for Transitions of Western Illinois, was our speaker. Barb mentioned that there are 9 different locations for Transitions serving some 8,000 people annually. This non-profit organization is celebrating its 60th year of existence to serving people in Quincy and in Adams and surrounding counties. They serve people from birth thru their lifetime in some cases. Their clientele ranges from the developmentally challenged to the disabled to just families in turmoil and helping all find solutions to their problems.

Transitions employ some 200 people who work at their various locations including the 4409 Maine Street location, the CRC location on 48th Street, the Transitions School (formerly St. Boniface School) at 7th and Hampshire and their group homes & apartments. For more information, you can go to www.twi.org. Thanks goes out to introducer Chris Parker who is now looking for a new job after introducing Ms. Chapin as being "from Cornerstone". Oops!

This & That

Jared Haugh, reading his Bible all week, jump started the meeting with the prayer.

Rick Goughnour chimed in afterwards with a well-defined "I" to initiate (that means start) the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Curt Moore reminded everyone of the Club picnic scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, June 10) at Madison Park at 6pm. Please bring your family or dates to enjoy the night. The Butcher Block food and Gengenbacher Shaved Ice will be available. There is NO cost. We  will again be sponsoring the Quincy Park Band's Flag Day Concert that night and will be handing out American Flags to concert goers that night.

President Curt, on behalf of Joel Koch, advised the Club that we need to update our Club directory online. If you need to update your information, or for you new members, add a picture and bio, please contact Joel.

To see the directory, go to www.quincyexchangeclub.org. (The password is exchange)

Steve Labs announced that the efforts of the staff at Hy-Vee in selling Blue Ribbons as part of our Child Abuse Prevention campaign garnered $700. Thank you Steve for over-seeing this wonderful operation.

Jared Haugh is chairing the golf outing during the District Convention with the tee-off date of June 25 at Spring Lake Country Club which includes dinner afterward.. The cost is just $75 so get your foursomes to Chairman Jared Haugh. We would love to see quite a few golfers there to kick off the convention. No foursome? That's OK too.

Jared also held a meeting after the regular meeting last Friday to discuss the Avenue of Lights. There will be a meeting with John Groves at Scotties Fun Spot tonight (Tuesday, June 9) at 6:30. It would be great to see a large showing there to learn more about our involvement with this wonderful project.

Don't forget the District Convention is coming up June 25 thru June 28. The cost to Quincy members is a reduced rate of only $85. You can also pick and choose individual event s to attend at a reduced rate. Check the district website of www.lincolnlandexchnge.org for the registration form and details. (the long in is "member" and password  is "exchange"

The 50/50 Card Draw pot is now over $1,500 after David Adam, with the right ticket, selected the wrong card. He drew a Queen of Clubs meaning that there will be just 11 cards left in the deck (one of them is a joker) for this Friday's drawing. Getting real interesting. Thanks to Brian Koch for handling the Card Draw even.

Steve Peters, who turned 59 on Saturday, handled the Tail-Twisting duties and along the way told a "Little Johnny" joke involving ears. He did so collecting a buck from members without the use of a bucket. He is so talented

Don't forget the National Exchange Club's Mega Raffle. Tickets are $100. Go to www.exchangeraffle.com to purchase your tickets!

Time to go for the 89th Lincolnland District Convention June 25-28.

On Thuirsday, the 25th, we'll have registration open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Teri Koch and Kathy Johnson (Quad Cities) will cover registration so we can all play golf. I'm still looking for some items to put in the goody bags for those who register. If you or your business have some give-away items, please let Dennis Know.

Jared has the golf and dinner covered (see This and That). Friday morning Teri and Kathy will cover registration at the Hotel. The District Board will meet Friday morning, then we'll have the luncheon in place of our regular meeting. All Quincy Exchangites are welcome to attend the Friday lunch and Bobbe White will be our program speaker. JJ's is doing the catering, so come on out just like any other Friday.

Friday afternoon is the first business session and is free to any Exchangite. Then Friday evening, we could use a couple of guys to set up the pop-up tent and get it ready for the concert (read: bar). We'd like a big contingent of Quincy guys and their wives to help us welcome our guests from all over the state. The cost is included in the total convention package or is $20 each by itself. The price includes dinner, music and drinks.

Saturday morning we'll have the One Nation Under God breakfast and memorial service - included in the package or $20 by itself. Following the breakfast is the second business session and elections, which is free to all members. We'll have a few candidates for national office speaking, so drop in and get to know them.

Saturday evening is the installation banquet and Sunday morning is the Youth Recognition breakfast.

Throughout the weekend, we'll have a hospitality room at Stoney Creek - stop by and have a drink. If you like to play "Pass the Trash", there is usually a games each evening.

Right now, we've got close to 60 signed up, not counting our club, so come on down and get to know some of the folks from other clubs.
