Club Meets at Noon each Friday at Stoney Creek Inn, 3809 Broadway in Quincy
2012-2013 Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs Best Bulletin Award Winner
This Friday

Barb Chapin, the Executive Director of Transition of Quincy will be our speaker. Barb will update us on all the happenings at Transitions. Good meeting to invite a future member to Quincy's Finest Hour.

Friday Last

Matt Anderson of Anderson Consulting, Incorporated was our speaker and he enlightened us on upcoming Ameren electric rate hikes in the near future. Matt also explained how to limit the impact of those pending increases.

Basically, electric rates will increase 2 cents per kilo-watt hour for the summer and 1.5 cents per kilo-watt hour the rest of the year. The average customer may see an increase of some $300 a year when those rates went into effect yesterday (June 1st). Small commercial accounts will be higher compared to residential customer's accounts.

Matt also mentioned that the Municipal Aggregation plan, which combined several area towns with Quincy to get a better rate, will need to be renewed after a two year run. Matt also explained that there are 26 different electric suppliers for Ameren all of which have a different rate. He mentioned to be careful of plans that included phrases that say "the first two months are fixed" because some of those plans may include "exiting" fees in them.

Club members in attendance were offered a $30 charge (well below their normal rate) to have their electric bills reviewed for cost saving options by Anderson Consulting, Inc. Thank you Matt for an excellent program and for being a past helper for Gus Macker as well. Matt, in his first year with Anderson Consulting, Inc., was introduced by his father Kent Anderson.

This & That

John Spring sprang into action as he presented the prayer to get things going last Friday.

Alan Musholt handled the beginning of the Pledge of Allegiance with a firm and horizontal "I". Not bad for a guy who's family owns a vertical business.

Former President Dennis Koch handled the duties of running the meeting as President Curt Moore was under the weather (get well Curt) and Vice-President Jared Haugh was unavailable.

Dennis reminded everyone of our golf outing on June 24th. The cost is just $75 at Spring Lake Country Club so get your foursomes to Chairman Jared Haugh. No foursome? That's OK too

The Club also received a thank you note from Lincolnland President and Mattoon native, Bill VanKeuren and his wife Marilyn who thanked us for a nice visit to the Club a few weeks ago.

Dennis also displayed our new National Exchange Club Banner which features our Club on it.

Don't forget the District Convention is coming up. The cost to Quincy members is a reduced rate of only $85. Check the District website for the registration form and details or click here for the registration forms for the convention and golf.

Dennis also reminded everyone about the Club picnic set for June 10th at Madison Park at 6pm. Please bring your family or dates to enjoy the night. There is NO cost. We will again be sponsoring the Quincy Park Band's Flag Day Concert that night and will be handing out American Flags to concert goers that night.

Dennis also mentioned he is in need of 6 candidates for the So Proudly We Hail Award. If you know of someone who displays the flag properly and regularly please contact Dennis as soon as possible.

Macker Co-Chair Steve Green thanked everyone involved with helping Gus Macker to a huge success. There were 28 Club members who acted as scorekeepers this year and there was even a Spiderman sighting. Steve mentioned that the financials of Gus Macker are not available yet but he feels the 25th anniversary edition went very well.

Art Awerkamp, the chairman for our Flags of Honor program, mentioned that some 100 plus flags were placed in yards in Quincy on Memorial Day as the program kicked off. The Quincy High School football prayers set up the flags and took them down. Art thanked the committee. The cost is just $30 to get a flag in your yard for Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Jim Lierly had the winning ticket but NOT the winning card in the 50-50 Card Draw. Jim drew a 9 of Diamonds which means this Friday there will be 12 cards plus a joker left in the deck. The pot of $1,425 will grow for Friday's drawing. For members who hardly attend, please wear your badge. We'd hate for you to win the money and no one know who you are.

Bruce Broemmel handled the tail-twisting duties complete with a brothel joke involving a balloon without air. Tom Brady must have been there first.

Don't forget the National Exchange Club's Mega Raffle. Tickets are $100. Go to www.exchangeraffle.com to purchase your tickets!

We start gearing up for the 89th Lincolnland District Convention June 25-28.

Here's the schedule in a nutshell - Golf on Thursday at Spring Lake with dinner to follow, Friday, our regular club meeting will be a part of the convention so come on out. Friday afternoon is a business session, which is open to all members, then Friday evening will be food & drink and Cheeks McGee at the Villa Katherine. Saturday morning, we'll have General U.S. Grant speak at breakfast followed by a memorial service for all Lincolnland members who passed during the last year. Elections and a business session follow breakfast with the celebration banquet Saturday evening. Sunday morning we celebrate the District's youth with a breakfast honoring the district Youth of the Year and ACE recipients.

The cost for Quincy Exchange Club members is $85 for the convention (golf is separate and the club is picking up the tab for Friday lunch as part of your dues). The price includes all of the meals and a goody bag at registration. If you don't want to attend the whole shebang, you can sign up for individual events on the registration form. Friday evening dinner, drinks and entertainment is $20; Saturday breakfast with General Grant is $20; the Saturday Celebration Banquet is $45; and Sunday breakfast is $25. We want a good turnout from the club - especially Friday evening - to meet our fellow Exchangites from around the state.

Jared is putting the golf outing together and the registration form is in the packet. Golf and dinner is $75 and includes your cart fee. We'll be joined by some of the district Exchangites and more will be by for dinner that evening. Don't golf but want to come to dinner? You can do that too for $25.

We've got some great speakers and entertainment lined up and you'll get the chance to meet some of the candidates for National office as well as Jim Ruzon, who is running for National Treasurer and Scot Warren, who is running for Regional Vice President will be here along with our National Representative, Bon Hester from Oklahoma. Oh yeah, some guy from the National Foundation will be around as well.

If you have any items that you would consider donating for a silent auction to benefit the District Foundation, that would be appreciated. The District Foundation funds the two $2,500 scholarships that are given to the Youth of the Year and ACE winners and we've had a couple of our local winners receive those scholarships in past several years.

Finally, if your business has any promotional items that you could part with, we've got 100 goody bags to fill. Magnets, coozies, pens, stress balls, mouse pads or note pads - anything like that would be great. Just let Dennis know.

Any questions? Just check with Dennis. Hope to see you there!
