This Friday

We "Tip-Off" the Silver Anniversary of Gus Macker this Friday and we will be ready as we have been for the past 24 years. Co-Chairs, Steve Green and Perry Terwelp will give us the last minute details of this year's event. Help is always needed so please step up as an Exchangite and assist where needed.

Michelle Wilkerson was our speaker. Michelle owns Yoga7even as well as Grown-N-Gathered organic food store in Quincy and is a native of Brown County. A knee injury led to her interest in Yoga and her living in downtown Chicago made her aware of the need for a specialty grocery store. Both are located next to each other between 7th and 8th on Hampshire in Quincy.

Her yoga classes leave people feeling invigorated and energized. Her classes include Vinyasa Yoga. I went to public school and found out that Vinyasa means "to place in a special way". Michelle features Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Yoga along with Power Yoga with Free Weights. She also holds classes for children from walking to 17 year olds. Some other types of yoga Michelle features include Community, Pre/Post Natal, Slow-Flo, Restorative, Desk Jockey and Mommy & Me Yoga. The price ranges are from $12 for a drop in class to $109 monthly for adults and reduced rates for children. She also offers gift cards as well.

Grown N' Gathered is a social movement towards healthier, sustainable, and local living. It is a privately owned for profit store with a new take on community. It's a hybrid model of a farmers market and grocery store. Grown N' Gathered is a specialty food store that works with area growers utilizing some 30 local vendors. Michele Wilkerson took a special interest in Downtown Quincy as she began to live and work there in the year prior to her opening Grown & Gathered. Introducing a sustainable grocery and eating option to the region became her mission. She began with the local growers and gatherer's to tap into what was already established. As the conversation's progressed, it became clear, there needed to be a lead gatherer to organize all things locally grown and that became Michelle. Thanks to Michelle for presenting and interesting program. Special thanks to "Mr. I don't eat anything green" Dennis Koch for providing the introduction of our speaker.

Thanks to everyone who assisted last Sunday with the court tapings for Gus Macker Basketball. Thanks to Kirk Frageman .

Steve Green mentioned we have 381 teams ready to go for Macker this weekend. He also mentioned that we have 12 additional small vendors added this year.

Dennis Koch still needs help with registration on Friday from 1:30 to 7 and Saturday especially from 7 to 9 am.

Rick Gengenbacher reported that we are good to go with registered court officials.

Vic Welper thanked everyone who sold court sponsorships. We ended up with 45 court sponsorships paid or in kind.

The 50-50 pot grows to beyond $1,250 as Eric Frese drew an Ace of Diamonds leaving 13 cards and a joker left in the deck. Get ready to see some members we haven't seen for a while. Thanks to Brian Koch for handling the drawing.

President Moore read thank you note for donations recently made by the Club to Special Olympics and Cornerstone.

Rick Gengenbacher handled the Tail-Twisting duties including collection phantom collections from the "City Hall tables".

Special guests with us included Lincolnland District President Bill VanKeuren and his wife Madelyn from Mattoon, Illinois.

Mike Lavery and Jeff Dorsey are spearheading the selection committees for the annual John Tripp Distinguished Service Award and Exchangite of the Year Award. Please present nominations to them at the May 29th meeting.

Proudly We Hail
Proudly We Hail honors those Americans who display the nation's banner properly and regularly. We recognize six recipients each year around Flag Day with a plaque designed for this purpose. Revived two years ago after being dormant for more than a decade, we rely on members of the club to nominate someone for the award.
If you know of an individual or business that regularly and properly flies the American Flag and can join us for lunch on June 12, please shoot an email to exchange@adams.net or let Dennis Koch know. We'll make the arrangements and handle the invitations. Also joining us on the 12th will be several area military academy graduates who will receive an American Flag that has flown over the capital.
This coming Monday, Memorial Day, marks the first of four holidays for our new Flags of Honor program. We've got about 100 locations for flags in Quincy and, with the help of the Blue Devil Football Team, will get them put up and taken down. It's not too late to have a flag in your yard - just go to the website and order your subscription for $30, or contact Art Awerkamp.

Teddy and Mackerman on the road
May 9th, Time-Out Teddy and the Mackerman worked the crowd at the Children and Family Fun Day at the Oakley-Lindsay Center. Here's one of many photos snapped that day!
