This Friday

I trust that the Easter Holiday was a good one for you and your family. After a week off for Good Friday and Easter, we will gather back at Stoney Creek Inn this Friday to find out more about happenings at John Wood Community College. William Stuflick, the Dean of Technical & Health Education will be our speaker. Good time to bring a prospective member to Quincy's finest hour!

Four guys who shall go nameless showed up for the meeting that didn't take place. All were caught on video and apparently don't read their bulletin. I suggest that those four people remember me in their wills or I just might have to reveal their names at a future meeting. Remember, the writer of this wonderful weekly also doubles as a Tail-Twister at times. Have your lawyers include my name in the will and contact my attorney, Bill Cheatem of Dewey, Cheatem & Howe.

This & That

With no meeting, there was no prayer delivered last Friday. Hopefully, you heard a prayer sometime over the Easter weekend as a substitute.

We also had no Pledge of Allegiance either. If you are feeling a void, I suggest you go to a hockey game and listen to the Star Spangled Banner to satisfy your patriotic needs. You might even get to hear "O'Canada" as well.

When we last left you, the 50-50 card draw with a pot worth $1,065 was still waiting for a winner. I assume the pot will be the same or larger only if Brian Koch didn't buy any Easter candy with it. There are 19 cards including a joker in the deck unless the Easter Bunny stole the deck.

Remember to sell your Gus Macker court sponsorships that Vic Welper handed out. We need everyone to help sell these $300 court sponsorships. All you have to do is ask. If you have questions, contact Vic.

Congratulations to Rich Howell. Rich received the Lions of Illinois Foundation Distinguished Service Award. Only 2 were awarded this year in the State of Illinois and Rich was the recipient of one of them.Way to go Rich. The quality in this club continues!!!

Line of the Week

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out in front of his car. Unfortunately, the man ran over the rabbit. He stopped the car and got out to look at it and found that it was The Easter Bunny. The driver feels awful and begins to cry. Just then, a beautiful woman stops her car and gets out to comfort the man. She asks what is wrong? He replied that he just ran over and killed the Easter Bunny. The woman says "don't worry" and goes to her car and pulls out a can of hair spray and proceeds to spray the contents of the can on the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny jumps up and waves its paw and hops down the road continuing to wave. He waves until he can't be seen anymore. The driver is astonished and he asked the woman "what is in that can?" She gave the man the can to read the label which said "Hare Spray that restores life to dead hare and adds permanent wave. Hope you had a better Easter than this joke was!

In 2014, the rate of child abuse incidents in Quincy was 15.2 per 1,000 compared with a statewide rate of 8.6.

On the bright side, the number of substantiated cases of abuse and neglect in Adams County declined 5 percent between 2006 and 2013, while statewide their was a 13 percent increase over the same period of time.

Reported crimes against children was 5.3 per 10,000 compared to a statewide rate of 22.1. What we do does make a difference!
