Mr. Brian Stone of Mississippi Belle Distributing Company was kind enough to be our speaker last Friday. The main topic was "craft beers" which are blossoming in recent years. In 1979, there were just 89 craft beers in the United States. Currently there were a little over 3000 craft beer breweries in the U.S. Mr. Stone brought several samples for members to try, all with a different kind of yeast which gives the beer its flavor. There is currently a 12 pack of craft beer available with 12 different beers called "Beer Camp". Have you ever wondered what the difference was between a pilsner and a lager? Well a pilsner is a type of lager. Another question was what is the difference between a lager and ale? The answer according to Mr. Stone was a lager comes from a colder keg and it comes from the bottom of the keg while an ale is top fermented. Another popular beverage for Americans lately has been "cider beer" which has much more flavor. Gluten free beer is also becoming very popular in the U.S. as well. The advancement of craft beers in America may have occurred simply because of more home breweries that have sprung up in recent years. Thanks to Mr. Stone for a wonderful program and thanks to Steve Labs for his introduction.

This & That

Doug Greenwell handled the prayer with a special thanks to the "cooks" which prompted Dennis, Brian, Joel and Joel's Guest cousin Ed Koch to say "thanks".

Josh Klitz, who studied all night, began the Pledge of Allegiance with the word "I". Amazingly, the rest of the Club took over from there.

Brian Koch handled the 50-50 Card Draw worth $258. Sonny Christner had the right ticket but drew a 3 of Spades.

Jimmy Louthen reminded people to sell Smoke on the River Raffle tickets and if you need more tickets contact Rick Goughner. This year's event will feature an all you can eat Hog Roast on Friday night to kick off the fundraiser.

Cullan Duke and Chris Parker received national badges for their outstanding work as Secretary and Treasurer for the Club respectively. Those were presented to them by Chuck Venvertloh who was pinch hitting for President Curt Moore who was attending the funeral of club member Tony Nutt's father.

The next meeting for Field of Honor will be held tomorrow night   (Aug. 13th) at ETC Computerland at 5:30. All members are welcomed.

Jeff Dorsey flawlessly collected money as the tail-twister but presented a very flawed joke along the way. Totally went brain dead when it came time for the punchline. By the way, the Alzheimer's Walk is September 4th in Quincy. Think I will just go fly a kite.

Anyone interested in being a future tail twister is welcomed to contact Bruce Broemmel. Bruce's request came after my miscue. Should I be worried?

Jimmy Louthen reminded people to sell their raffle tickets for fund-raising for Smoke on the River which is September 5 and 6. The winner gets their choice of a Kawasaki KLX 2500S Dirt Bike, a Kawasaki Ninja 300 Street Bike, a Kawasaki Brute Force 4-wheeler or $3500 cash. The cost is $5 per ticket or 3 for $10.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Quincy Police Chief Rob Copley and his family after the loss of his mother. Loretta Copley was 84.

Exchange Education

Exchange and Aviation
In January 1929, over 1,000 people from 44 states attended the Progress Dinner of United Business Interests to the Aviation Industry, sponsored by Exchange at the Hotel Commodore in New York. Among the attendees was Amelia Earhart and other famous flyers of the day.

Exchange originated sponsorship of the National Women's Air Derby in 1929 (later known as the Powder Puff Derby), with the first race originating in Santa Monica, CA and ending in Cleveland, OH during the National Air Races and Aeronautical Expo.

Exchange was a driving force in promoting aviation to towns across the country, and Earhart, Adm Richard Byrd and others were frequent speakers in the cause. Exchange developed the Model Aviation Program for youths interested in aviation through model plane clubs sponsored by Exchange Clubs and sponsored the National Model Airplane Championships for a number of years.
