Club Meets at Noon each Friday at Stoney Creek Inn, 3809 Broadway in Quincy
2012-2013 Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs Best Bulletin Award Winner
This Friday

ElsenpeterRichard Elsenpeter Sr. and Jr. will be our speakers. The elder is a retired actor and was a Midwestern actor who began his career in repertoire and circle stock in the mid-twentieth century. He dedicated his life to the pursuit of rural, family entertainment and took pleasure in entertaining the common people of rural communities. Elsenpeter spearheaded Possum Holler Opry, a country-music television program that aired for ten years on various local television stations, where he played the host, Toby Dick Ellis. Looks like a great program to invite a friend to.

Sarah Cantrell, the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator for Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care, was our speaker. Sarah, an Illinois State University graduate and native of the Camp Point area, spoke about the benefits of hospice and services provided by them. The doctors, nurses and social workers in the program work with both the dying patient and their families to make the remaining time left.. quality time. They have 8 counties that they serve with fully staffed offices in Quincy, Carthage, Pittsfield and Carrolton, Illinois. They assist all patients of all ages including children and not just cancer patients. They basically take over for the caregiver in handling the paperwork and the medicines and equipment that maybe needed. They even helped a patient get to go on a recent Honor Flight. If you learned only one thing from Sarah it was that Hospice in NOT a bad thing.

Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care is going to hold a special event called Butterfly Moments which gives the community a chance to honor their loved ones thought a live butterfly release at Moorman Park this Sunday. The release is scheduled for 2pm this Sunday at a cost of $10 per butterfly. Each person honored will have their name read during the ceremony. Anyone who purchases a butterfly will also get a t-shirt. Thanks to Doug Greenwell for his introduction of our speaker

This & That

Rick Gengenbacher (or whatever his name is) began things with a prayer followed by Rick Veihl who drew in a huge breath so he could utter one letter ("I") to begin the Pledge of Allegiance.

Steve Peters fleeced the flock for a buck and told a joke about nuns painting which ended with a clap of thunder. He's lucky the lightning bolt didn't strike him.

Brian Koch handled the Card Draw worth $235. Sonny Christner had the winning ticket but drew a 7 of Spades.

Curt Moore reminded the Club of the board meeting change coming up. The August board meeting will be held on Monday, August 11th. The board has decided to move the monthly board meetings to 11:45am on the 3rd Thursday of the month beginning in September instead of the 2nd Monday of each month. All members are welcomed to attend any board meeting which is held on the 3rd floor of the Pier Restaurant. The cost is $10 to cover your lunch if you will be eating.

Jimmy Louthen passed out raffle tickets to club members to sell. We are selling the tickets for fund-raising for Smoke on the River. The winner gets their choice of a Kawasaki KLX 2500S Dirt Bike, a Kawasaki Ninja 300 Street Bike, a Kawasaki Brute Force 4-wheeler or $3500 cash. The cost is $5 per ticket or 3 for $10.

Kent Anderson announced that he has 29 signup participants for the Smoke on the River BBQ Contest Certified BBQ Judging Class. That class is set for August 2nd at JJ's Café. So far over 50 people have signed up to be a judge. Kent can use some help at the class. For more information, go to: www.smokeontheriver.net or contact Kent Anderson at 242-5224.

Smoke on the River will be held on September 5th and 6th.

In the good news department, Gary Farha has been dismissed from the hospital and hopefully will be back with us soon perhaps as early as this Friday.

We had one guest and that was Duncan Sankey of London, England. Duncan was the guest of Lenny Biallas and is the son in law of former member Tom Gott. Duncan is a money manager in England.

Art Awerkamp has set the meeting date for the next organizational meeting for this new fund raiser/service project.

The meeting will be Wednesday evenig beginning at 6 p.m. at ETC Computerland, 3206 Koch's Lane.

This project will involve presenting a 1,000 American Flag field of honor over Veteran's Day weekend. Exchange Education

The Exchange Club Covenant of Service was written in 1923 by Thomas L. Bailey who later served as National President and was then elected Governor of Mississippi. It first appeared in the national magazine in July, 1923 but was not formally adopted until 1927. Bailey was one of only three men to serve two terms as National President - in 1925 and 1926. A Charter member of the Meridian Mississippi Exchange Club, Bailey was a prominant attorney who served as Mississippi Speaker of the House for 12 years before being elected governor in 1944. He died in office in 1946.

The National Exchange Club Covenant of Service follows:

Accepting the divine privilege of single and collective responsibility as life's noblest gift, I covenant with my fellow Exchangites:

To consecrate my best energies to the uplifting of Social, Religious, Political and Business ideals;

To discharge the debt I owe to those of high and low estate who have served and sacrificed that the heritage of American citizenship might be mine;

To honor and respect law, to serve my fellowmen, and to uphold the ideals and institutions of my Country;

To implant the life-giving, society-building spirit of Service and Comradeship in my social and business relationships;

To serve in Unity with those seeking better conditions, better understandings, and greater opportunities for all.
