We held the Proudly We Hail Flag Day program. Six honorees were showcased for their display of the American Flag either at their business or at their home. Those honored included:

Bradford Villa, represented by Jean Hattemar and nominated by Sonny Christner.

Todd and Carrie Butterfield, nominated by Rich Howell.

David and Janet Arns, nominated by Charlie Ledbetter.

Terry and Cheryl Harrison, nominated by Cullan Duke.

Pat and Dick Wentura, nominated by John Spring.

And Bob Dixon, nominated by Art Awerkamp.

Mr. Dixon, a Boy Scout himself, corrected a flaw in that the American Flag posted for the meeting was improperly posted to the right of the podium (as the audience saw it) so he moved it to the left and proper side. He, along with all of the winners, was given the opportunity to speak as to why they fly the American Flag and all of the comments were very poignant. Each one of the recipients was given a plaque which was presented by Glenda Hackamack, the Director of Administrative Services who was filling in for Mayor Kyle Moore.

For many years, former Exchange Club member S.T. Longoria chaired the Proudly We Hail Program but when he left the club, the program went with him. Last year the Club reinstituted the program and it went to new heights last Friday. Hat's off to Dennis Koch for putting together a wonderful Proudly We Hail event.

Also in attendance were two U.S. Army Cadets who recently graduated from West Point. Zachary Reichert and David Musholt. Both are also graduates from the 2010 class of Quincy Notre Dame High School.

Zach also got married last Saturday to Laura Waters and will be stationed in Hawaii following his completion of basic training (some honeymoon trip!). He is the son of Joe and Chris Reichert.

David will be reporting to Germany after he completes basic training. His parents are proud Club member Alan and Carolyn Musholt

Also during the program Art Awerkamp was asked to present a new fundraising idea to the membership involving the sale of American Flags. Basically it involves the club "renting" flags out to people who will have them posted in their yards or business. We would rent them during certain holidays with the hope being that the Boy Scouts would put them out and pick them up at the end of the day. The Idea came from his brother Ted who saw this being done in Texas. More details will follow but if you're interested on being on the committee for this, plan on attending a meeting tonight (6-17) at 6pm at ETC Computerland at 3206 Koch's Lane.

This & That

Jared Haugh presented a rousing Flag Day prayer followed by a soft opening "I" for the Pledge of Allegiance by Les Sach. Jared Haugh was standing by if needed.

Steve Green drew a 4 of Hearts in the 50-50 Card Draw Contest so the pot swells to $200 (I have no idea what the pot holds in it). Thanks to Jared Haugh for running the card draw.

The Tail-Twisting duties were handled by a guy named Jared Haugh (Who?).

Jared Haugh (let's see how many times I can mention his name in one bulletin) placed signup sheets for Friday's golfers. The cost is $45 to play with cart. Thanks Jared Haugh for chairing this event.

Vice President Curt Moore, filling in for President Chuck Venvertloh, alerted the club of a recent budget meeting that was held for next year. He also held a first reading for prospective member Kyle Awerkamp who was proposed by his uncle Art and not by Jared Haugh as you may have thought (since Jared did everything else at the meeting). Curt also mentioned the Lincolnland District meetings will be held June 19th thru the 22nd. Dennis Koch will be attending the gathering in Urbana. Jared Haugh could not make it this year.

Oh, by the way, Jared Haugh quit the club. (just kidding!)
