Debbie Reed, the President and CEO of Chaddock School in Quincy, enlightened us to just what Chaddock School is all about. It may be Quincy's best kept secret. It is not a secret anymore to the members who were with us last Friday as Debbie, who has been at Chaddock for 20 years and the last 8 in her current position, shared plenty of information. Chaddock has been in existence for over 160 years and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. One of the misconceptions is that they only have boys as students, but that is not the case. Girls have been at Chaddock since 1982 after Woodland Home closed.

They have served over 19,000 children from 27 different states over the years. The have children from 6 to 21 years of age and they are an accredited school just like Quincy High School. They serve students from 39 different school districts and have an outreach program where they go to students homes and even work with parents on parenting skills. The current school was built for 45 students and they currently have 90 students which has forced them to convert office space into classrooms. Hence, the need for additional space.

With that in mind, Chaddock recently announced plans for the construction of a new school on their 32-acre campus. This $12 million project will replace the current K-12 education facility and will provide 50-thousand square feet of space. Their hope is to reach their goal by 2016. Special thanks to Doug Greenwell for his handling of the introduction.

Prior to that, Richard Elsenpeter spoke about the Mid-America Military Salute coming up on Saturday, July 5th, at the Adams County Fairgrounds. The event will feature a boot camp experience, rides and bounce houses, displays, food and drinks, bands, a health fair, a bike show, a family area and a beer tent. All that and more is FREE thanks to corporate sponsorships they are gathering. The event will run from 10amto 10pm to honor our military, our veterans and their families. Doug also handled the introduction for Mr. Elsenpeter

This & That

Jared Haugh began the proceedings with the prayer which mentioned being thankful that Gus Macker was over. That was followed by Bruce Broemmel initiating the Pledge of Allegiance with a small "i" because his volume was barely audible. .

Bruce also doubled up as our tail-twister as well.

Jared Haugh also pulled double duty as he handled the 50-50 card draw. The pot of "$200" was not won by David Adam who had the right numbered ticket as predicted by your humble reporter. David drew the Queen of Hearts and not the Ace of Spades. I am confused now. Does the pot grow or shrink for this Friday? (Actually, it stays at $200 until 50% the collections exceed the minimum jackpot of $200)

President Chuck Venvertloh announced the next board meeting will be on June 9th at The Pier. He also announced the Flag Day Concert date is June 11th and we will need people to hand out flags that night. Still not sure if we are holding a picnic that evening as we have in the past.

Dennis Koch revealed that there will be 6 recipients of a flag flying award at the "Proudly We Hail" Flag Day meeting on June 13. We'll also honor a couple of recent West Point grads from Quincy.

Post Gus Macker was the topic as Steve Green thanked everyone again and especially the 30 members who showed up to be score keepers this year. He also mentioned Bill Awerkamp and his assistance. How could we ever do Macker without Bill? It is too early to determine financially just how we did. Thanks to Steve and Perry Terwelp for chairing the event, which seemed to go very smoothly with no real incidents to report. Great job guys!

Chuck Venvertloh shared a letter received prior to Gus Macker from former member Travis Brown of the Historic Quincy Business District with concerns on the trash left behind after last year's event. Then Chuck verbally shared comments from another letter from Travis after Gus Macker concluded this year where he was extremely pleased with the cleanup process this year.

Jared Haugh, the chairman for The Exchange Club Golf Outing to be held at Spring Lake Country Club on June 20th, said signup sheets will be on the table this week. He projects the cost to be about the same as last year around $45 to $50 to play with cart. Friends and prospective members are welcomed to play. Remember, regardless if you are playing or not, the meeting and lunch that day will be held at Spring Lake Country Club
