Mayor Kyle Moore delivered his first State of the City address to the membership. Moore was introduced by Randy Frese who informed the gathering that the Mayor is a graduate of St. James Lutheran School, received a BA in Business Management from Quincy University, has been a Big Brother in the Big Brother-Big Sisters program since 1999, has been active in the United Way campaigns over the years and is currently a member of the Quincy Exchange Club. Moore became a city alderman back in 2009 and became Mayor of Quincy last year.

Mayor Moore began his speech by introducing and thanking the many department heads and Councilman Dan Brink who were in attendance for their dedication and hard work during his first year as Mayor. Moore mentioned that Quincy is blessed to have some very qualified educational leaders on both the elementary, high school and collegiate levels. He also said economic development is key to the city and a will be a priority during his administration. Moore also mentioned the Quincy Scorecard available on the city's website whereby citizens can grade how the city is doing.

He pointed to the Newcomb Hotel fire in the way many departments of the city came together to handle the fire and the aftermath of it. He also revealed that the plan is for the timetable to remove the debris of the Newcomb Hotel is set to be done by Dogwood Festival time. The Mayor also mentioned that the FAA had some concerns with the airport operations and that those concerns have all been resolved. Some tough issues ahead are the continuance of the Enterprise Zones in the city and the upcoming Public Safety Pension Plan negotiations.

This & That

Jared Haugh with a very eloquent prayer got the meeting going followed by Dan Brink, unaware he was to start the Pledge of Allegiance, who came through with flying colors and blurted out the word "I" which was followed by the membership joining in to finish it. Man, we are good with that each week.

President Chuck Venvertloh, without any paper to write notes on, utilized a roll of "Chuck Venvertloh for County Clerk" stickers to jot information on the back of the roll which was prominently displayed for all to see including the TV cameras. The man is a marketing genious.

Dennis Koch left The Exchange Club's Mega Raffle info sheet on the tables for all to see. The hope is that you will buy a ticket for $100. For every ticket we sell the club will get $10 back. The winner, to be drawn on July 12th, 2014, will get $100,000 cash. Second prize is expected to reach $4000 cash and third prize is expected to reach $2500 cash. You can get your tickets today at www.exchangeraffle.com. You do not need to be a member to buy a ticket. If you buy your ticket prior to March 31st, you will be entered in all three early bird drawings as well. So get them early.

The 50-50 card draw worth $785 was conducted by Curt Moore. Jeff Dorsey had the winning ticket but drew a 4 of Diamonds. That is about the fourth time that card has come up...What gives? The pot goes up maybe in two week. Can't do this illegal gambling with all the cops with us Friday can we?

Special thoughts and condolences go to Jim Benz who lost his brother Tom who passed away last week. Thoughts also go out to Josh Klitz who lost his father, Jerry, last week as well. Jerry was also the brother of former Exchange Club President Tom Klitz.

Friday was Jeff Dorsey's lucky day as he won the $5 for wearing his badge at the meeting.

This week's scheduled greeters are Rich Zeidler and Rich Lavery. I bet my $5 I won that Zeidler will be there first. Any takers?

Line of the Week

Belongs to Mayor Kyle Moore who mentioned he had brought a guest but didn't have enough cash on him to pay for his guest. So instead the Mayor whipped out a sheet of garbage stickers instead.
