Club Meets at Noon each Friday at Stoney Creek Inn, 3809 Broadway in Quincy
2012-2013 Lincolnland District Exchange Clubs Best Bulletin Award Winner
This Friday

We get to sample some wine for lunch this Friday as Jeremy Wombles of Hopewell Winery pays us a visit. Finally, we get to ask if it's red or white wine that goes with a gourmet hotdog. This would be a good meeting to bring a guest!

Our speaker last week was Barbara Wilkerson Fletcher, the Executive Director of the Quincy Museum. Ms. Wilkerson came to Quincy from Springfield, Illinois in 2004 after spending 12 years in the U.S. Army. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Springfield and worked at the Illinois State Museum and the Illinois State Military museum prior to arriving in Quincy. She is originally from Southern California. .

The Quincy Museum, which opened in 1965, is currently located in the Newcomb-Stillwell Mansion at16th and Maine Streets. Prior to that, it was located on Quinsippi Island before moving to its current location in 1980. Some 6,000 people a year go through the museum which has been hurt recently by the lack of school field trips by the Quincy Public Schools, a decision made by the school board a couple of years ago.

Currently they have a display entitled "The Beauty of Nature". The museum gets no funding from the State of Illinois currently and relies on grants, donations, annual memberships and fund raising events to operate the facility. Ms. Wilkerson Fletcher mentioned that the museum is always accepting past pictures of the museum for their archives.
Youth of the Month
Tom O'Connor

We also introduced the February Youth of the Month, Tom O'Connor, a Senior at Quincy Senior High School. Tom has been involved with the QHS Tennis team for the past four years where he qualified for State doubles team competition. He is also the team Captain.

He has also participated in the QHS musical for the past 3 years, played violin in the orchestra, sang in the Madrigal Choir, and has been elected President of the Concert Choir for the past three years. Tom was also a member of the QHS Beta Club and is currently a member of the National Honor Society. He is also active in his church group and with the Quincy Community Theatre. Tom's plan is to further his education at Wheaton College in Illinois.

Tom's parents are Tim and Julie O'Connor who were in attendance along with QHS Principal Danielle Edgar and QHS Counselor Mike Llewellyn who handled the introduction.

This & That

Jared Haugh, with yet another rousing prayer, led off the meeting which led him to say afterward "OK, it's time to pass the plate"..

The usually reserved Cullan Duke had the honors to beginning the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance and he didn't disappoint us.

Jared Haugh, with assistance from Hal Broadwater, handled the 50-50 Card Draw. Eric Frese had the correct ticket but drew a 3 of Spades so the pot of $715 goes even higher this Friday.

Steve Peters was the Tail Twister and told a wonderful insane asylum Valentine's story. How the two were related is still not known. You'll have to ask him.

President Chuck Venvertloh took the opportunity to present his own art including a picture of the urinal at his workplace. I would be worried if I worked there and someone took a camera into the men's room.

He also asked the Club if his Vote for Chuck for Adams County Clerk sign was art as he held it up for all to see. Big time fine should be coming for that!

Chuck also mentioned the thank you card received from Alex Blickhan, one of the recent Character Champion recipients. The Club also got a thank you from the Salvation Army for our donation of 1200 Cool Whip containers for their holiday dinner serving.

At the recent board meeting, the Club decided to purchase a new flag to replace the one at Ellington School.

Doug Reed was the recipient of $5 for wearing his badge at the meeting.

This Friday's scheduled greeters will be: Dave Poland and Steve Wellman.

Also this Friday we are scheduled to have in our presence Kevin Curran who will be visiting us. Kevin, a former Quincy member, is currently a member of the Naperville Exchange Club.

For those who are unaware, if you bring a guest the cost is $10. Just pay Chis Parker at the front table prior to the meeting. If that guest is a prospective member there is no cost

Line of the Week

Belongs to the one and only Gary Peters. After hearing of a "wild" party held years ago at the Quincy Museum where beer cans and even a women's undergarment were found in the basement, our speaker revealed that the permanent collection at the museum was valued at 1.5 million dollars. That led Gary to ask

 - "Does that include the woman's underwear"
