Our guest speaker was local attorney Tom Leeper. He said that he knew a lot about elder law and estate planning, but he "didn't know how to make it interesting," so he decided instead to talk about his adventures as a fighter pilot serving his country while serving in Vietnam. He was responsible for jamming Vietnamese radar when he was in the air. He spoke specifically about flights he was a part of on Jan. 1, 1971, April 1971 and May 10, 1972. Wearing his flight suit (how does he still fit in it?), he said he flew 148 total missions, starting when he joined the Air Force at age 27. "When you look at all the airmen I flew with, there were neither heroes nor cowards," Leeper said. "I was just pleased every time I put this uniform on." Another great program. Thanks to Tom for being our speaker.

This & That

John Spring led the group in prayer with Dick Wentura beginning the Pledge of Allegiance with gusto (so I am told)..

Dave Leggett, the kitchen manager at Hy-Vee, was the guest of Steve Labs.

Chuck Venvertloh accidentally asked Steve Peters for an update on the Macker instead of Steve Green. Peters announced that the tournament would be moved to August before he was mercifully cut off.

Kevin O'Donnell says all of the member badges are up to date. All of them have clips (no pins). Mel Dillman replied, "We don't need no stinkin' badges."

Speaking of that, the Greeter Program is a long running part of the Exchange Club but has fallen into disuse recently (like for the past 20 years). The idea is for each member to get a personal welcome to the meeting each week and would be directed to the food line or the front table. They would also ask for them to wear their badges and deposit a quarter which would go toward the $5 presentation later if you wear your badge.

So each week we will ask two members to be greeters from 11:40 until 12:10 (or until Rich Lavery shows up) for the upcoming week. You will need to set up the badges which are in the locked closet in the meeting room. The greeters names will be listed in the bulletin each week. If you cannot be there please find a substitute to replace you.

This week's scheduled greeters are: Charlie Ledbetter and Joel Koch.

Chuck Venvertloh thanked Bruce Broemmel for his role in handling the tail-twisting each week, and he congratulated him for his 67th birthday. Someone in the crowd retorted, "He's all grown up now." Broemmel said back, "That's another dollar."

Dick Wentura won the 50-50 draw, but he drew the Queen of Spades. Curt Moore says the pot is now at $650.

Josh Klitz and James Johnson received their official Exchange Club documents.

Bruce Broemmel twisted tails and told a joke about a man who had the misfortune of being handcuffed to a tree while naked. See Bruce for the punchline.

After the tail twisting ended, Chuck Venvertloh noted that Bruce has been threatening to fine him because he keeps mentioning that he's running for County Clerk.

My thanks to David Adam for handling the notes for the bulletin this week in my absence
